Dr. Louis Mes, a native of South Africa, received his basic training at the prestigious University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He later moved to the United Kingdom to specialize in general surgery, and was elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr. Mes completed his residency in plastic surgery at the University of Michigan, during which time he was awarded the Coller Prize for Original Research. He came to Lafayette in 1978, and was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1979. Dr. Mes is listed in the popular publication "Best Doctors in America," and in 1998 a local newspaper poll voted him Best Plastic Surgeon in Acadiana. He is also featured in New Beauty Magazine for his work here in Lafayette. Dr. Mes specializes in a broad range of general plastic surgery, including reconstructive, cosmetic, pediatric, and hand surgery. He has a sizeable practice in his special interest fields of body contouring and aesthetic/reconstructive surgery of the female breast. He was elected to the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons. Dr. Mes is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Southeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons and many state and local medical organizations. His civic interests include keen and proactive support of environmental groups and the Arts. Dr Mes is a devoted family man, married for over 30 years with three children. A tiny fraction of adverse events occurred after dermatologists performed more than 20,000 noninvasive and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, according to a study published online by JAMA Dermatology.
