April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day 💙

Today at Macon Community Hospital, our team proudly wore blue to show support, raise awareness, and stand alongside individuals and families impacted by autism.

Autism is not a limitation—it’s a different way of experiencing the world. By increasing understanding, promoting acceptance, and supporting inclusion, we can help create a stronger, more compassionate community for everyone.

We are proud of our staff for coming together to support this important cause and for the care and compassion they show every day.

Keri Eden, RN, at Macon Community Hospital recently spent time with one of the health classes at MCHS, providing valuable insight into the role of a surgery/pre-op nurse.

Students had the opportunity to learn firsthand about what it takes to care for patients before surgery and the important role nurses play in ensuring patient safety and comfort.

This is just one of the many ways we enjoy staying involved in our community through health education and inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals. 💙

Macon Community Hospital was proud to host healthcare students at Macon County High School for an interactive, hands-on learning experience!

Our team members, Candice and Lauren, guided students through real-life simulations to better understand the challenges stroke patients may face. Volunteers experienced vision impairment, fine motor impairment, and hemiparesis on the dominant side while completing everyday tasks like writing their name, opening a jar, and managing medications.
Students also participated in activities focused on thickened liquids and cognition, learning how Speech Therapy supports both swallowing safety and cognitive function.
We wrapped up by educating on how Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Physical Therapy all work together to help patients regain independence and improve quality of life after a stroke.
We love investing in future healthcare professionals and sharing the important work happening every day at MCH!

Serving on the Board of Directors at Macon Community Hospital means serving our neighbors, friends, and families. Many of us have personal connections to this hospital — as patients, loved ones, longtime supporters, or lifelong residents — and those experiences shape every decision we help make. We understand what this hospital means to Macon County because we’ve experienced its care firsthand. For 70 years, the hospital has been a steady presence in our community, providing dependable, compassionate care when it’s needed most, including a trusted emergency department close to home. Our responsibility is to protect that access, strengthen and expand services, and ensure the hospital continues to meet the needs of Macon County for generations to come. We believe a great community deserves a great hospital — and a great hospital is built by a great community. When local voices help guide local care, it strengthens trust, preserves access, and ensures quality healthcare remains right here at home.

Yes, We’re Talking About
THAT Appointment.
Avoiding It Doesn’t Make It Less Important.
It may not be your favorite thing to put on the calendar, but a
colonoscopy is one of the most powerful tools for preventing colon
cancer. Most adults should begin screening at age 45, and even earlier if risk factors such as family history, smoking, or certain digestive conditions are present.
Colon cancer often develops without symptoms, which makes routine screening so important. The good news? A colonoscopy is safe, routine, and usually completed in less time than you think.
Best of all, you don’t have to travel far. Our experienced team provides trusted, compassionate care close to home — helping to protect yourhealth, and keeping our community strong for years to come!
