Looking for a few more referrals for a new DBT Skills Group. After running DBT groups for years, I know that almost everyone who joins these groups LOVES the experience. Looking forward to this next iteration, which will be starting soon!

Last night in Skills Group, we learned my favorite skill, which is Accumulating Pleasant Experiences - short term.
It consists of purposely doing something pleasant each day, large or small, over and above what you already ordinarily do and in addition to the pleasant experiences that just happen to us unbidden.
Whether your life is already quite pleasant, or if there is some pleasantness or nearly none, the skill is to deliberately amp it up to the next level.
Empowering. Rewarding. Nice!

DBT is helpful for people who are struggling with intense, hard to manage emotions and/or behaviors that are hard to stop yet cause problems in your life.
Known for its effectiveness for people diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (it was the first therapy developed that actually helps people with this tough diagnosis), it also helps those with high anxiety, depression and anger and the urges that go with them (avoiding, isolating and attacking, respectively).

The LCA conference was so well attended that it was often difficult to get into the presentations! I learned more about how to treat gambling addictions, eating disorders and how to incorporate biofeedback into counseling.
As for my presentations, I used them as a springboard to network with professionals across the state to advance expertise in DBT. As of this month, we have a statewide DBT book club, a DBT training and discussion group and early next year we will start DBT consultation teams. I am excited to strive with these professionals toward offering DBT of the highest quality and fidelity to the model.

Kate offers comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for teens and adults whose feelings, behaviors and/or relationships feel out of control.
DBT works especially well for people who have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Binge Eating with or without Purging. People who struggle with feeling suicidal or non-suicidal self injury (for example, cutting) and different kinds of addictions also find DBT helpful.
Comprehensive DBT includes individual and family therapy sessions, Skills Group and coaching calls initiated by clients when they are using the skills between sessions, when it counts.
Kate also runs a free, weekly education/support group for family members to help them understand their loved ones' struggles, receive support, regain hope and learn how to help.
