Q: What is SI joint pain?

A: The sacroiliac (SI) joints connect your lower spine to your pelvis. When these joints become inflamed or unstable, it can cause pain in the lower back, hips, or even down the legs.

SI joint pain is often diagnosed through physical exam and imaging, and many patients respond well to conservative treatments such as therapy or injections.

Happy Doctor’s Day 🩺

Today, we’re proud to celebrate Dr. Mitchell and the incredible impact he makes in helping patients improve their quality of life.

Behind the White Coat:

Dr. Mitchell’s statement on why he became a doctor:
“I chose Pain Management because of its unique position at the intersection of the body and the mind. In my years of practice, what I have tried to provide most to my patients is acceptance and concern for their struggles. That’s what makes each patient a person to me, not just a number.”

Fun Fact: Before medical school, I thought I would host a call in radio show to listen to problems and give advice. Maybe one day!!

It’s FAQ Friday at TDI pain

Q: Why are my feet burning? 🔥

A: If it’s both feet and seems to be coming up from the toes to the ankle, it could be peripheral neuropathy (PN). PN is a condition, most commonly found in diabetics, where the small nerves at the tips of the toes get damaged and began to hurt. While diabetes (insulin resistance) is the most common cause. However, being exposed to certain substances such as chemotherapy can cause it as well.

What can you do? There is a three step ladder for treatment of PN
1. Medicines like Gabapentin, Lyrica, or Cymbalta
2. A sympathetic nerve block (this injection blocks the sympathetic nerve of the feet that’s worsen the pain)
3. Spinal cord simulator (this is a device used to change the pain signals that go to your brain into something more tolerable like a vibration or massaging sensation)

TDI pain can help you with this condition. Call our office today at (706)-443-5273. 📱

It’s FAQ Friday at TDI pain.

Q: Why does my neck hurt when I turn?

A: You are likely suffering from cervical facet arthropathy. This is when the joints in the neck don’t have enough space and rub against each other when you turn your head. You may feel a grinding sensation or hear a popping sound. The pain can travel up to the back of the head, down to the shoulders or shoulder blade, but usually do not go below the elbow. The underlying cause of this condition is degenerative disc disease of the cervical spine.

The Poll Results Are In!!!!!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent poll. The most common concern reported was back pain.

Here are 5 important facts about back pain:

1️⃣ It’s often linked to degenerative disc disease.
As we age, the discs in the spine can naturally wear down, which may lead to chronic lower back pain.

2️⃣ Lifestyle factors can play a role.
Smoking and obesity have both been associated with an increased risk of developing back pain because they can affect circulation and cause inflammation.

3️⃣ Muscle strain is a common cause.
Lifting heavy objects improperly, sudden movements, or overuse can strain the muscles and ligaments that support the spine.

4️⃣ Poor posture can contribute to back pain.
Long periods of sitting, improper workstation setup, and poor body mechanics can place extra stress on the lower back.

5️⃣ Back pain is one of the leading causes of missed work in the United States.
It is a major reason people call out of work, which can impact productivity, income, and overall quality of life.

Lower back pain should not prevent you from living your life comfortably.

Contact our office at (706)-443-5273 to schedule an appointment and learn more about treatment options that may help improve your comfort and reduce your pain.

Take back control of your life TODAY!
