Hello everyone and Happy New Year!!
On this day 23 years ago- January 1, 2022, I opened The Inner Path Yoga Studio. I started out renting the building-It was available because the counseling center moved down on Ridley Ave. Yay for me!!
I put an add in the paper about yoga classes, and I had already taught ‘stretching and toning’ at Gold’s Gym (they didn’t want me to call the class yoga)
I started out with half carpet and half hardwood- I installed mirrors and was ready to share yoga with anyone interested! I just hoped someone would be interested!
No more gym (even though I missed it- it was a wonderful gym to work for) and no more sharing a schedule with more popular classes:)
I opened on the first of the year for a 5:30am class. When I got there early that morning- I didn’t think anyone would show. To my surprise, there were several!!
At least 8 or 9!!
At 5:30am! For yoga! In Lagrange!!
Now 23 years later, I’m still surprised anyone shows up!! I’m a horrible business owner- but I cherish and hold dear to my heart the practice of yoga.
My faith in Jesus and God’s teachings are the foundation of my life. And along with my faith, practicing yoga has enriched my life more than I knew was possible. I have met my very best friends on 206 Smith St. I have so many memories or laughter and tears- and victories and failures(mostly mine😂)
But every class I teach- I walk in with a little bit of nervousness. A touch of anxiety that someone will recognize that I’m a fraud- that even after- I think 28 or 29 years- I still don’t know what I’m talking about -and I never have.
But I walk in anyway- and that nervousness vanishes- I am very confident in my ability as a teacher. Only because I absolutely love it. I see how yoga benefits others- And I see how it benefits me- no comparisons, no judgements, and no competition with others.
Just the enjoyment of getting stronger, balanced, and flexible.
As a teacher, I will still forget a pose on one side, forget the name of a pose, and say 4 more when I really mean waaaay more than 4, but I will also continue to love yoga with my whole heart- and share with anyone that shows up!!
Here’s to 23 more years!
