Sometimes you really don't know it's your "last day" until it is 🖤

On Tuesday afternoon, Dr. Lindsey received her final prenatal adjustment...all while having contractions (though she didn't realize how close baby Cole was to arriving!). She began her day caring for patients, but ended up having to leave a little earlier than she planned as things started progressing. Of course, we had to get a couple of pictures with the last patients she saw that day to commemorate!

Just a few hours later, late that night (technically early the next morning!), baby Cole made his debut! 💙

We love that her last day before maternity leave was spent doing what she loves most: serving her patients and being part of this amazing community.

While Dr. Lindsey is out on maternity leave, Dr. Michelle is here and ready to take great care of her patients, and our office remains open and fully operating as usual. Thank you for your love and support of Dr. Lindsey, and for continuing to trust our team!

This Black History Month, we're taking time to recognize the individuals whose perseverance and professionalism helped expand chiropractic care into new communities and new spaces within the healthcare system.

In 1954, Dr. Walton Russ became the first African American chiropractor licensed in the state of Arkansas, marking a turning point in both state and chiropractic history. This was an especially important milestone, as it was a time when both the chiropractic profession and America were still heavily racially divided. It would take another 10 years before the Civil Rights Act became law, making Jim Crow laws illegal.

At a time when racial segregation and discrimination severely limited opportunities for Black healthcare professionals, Dr. Russ's licensure helped open doors for greater representation within the profession, particularly in the South. His achievement contributed to expanding access to chiropractic care and helped lay the groundwork for future generations of Black chiropractors to practice and lead within their states.

Dr. Walton Russ's legacy reminds us that progress in chiropractic has been built not only through education and advocacy, but also through persistence in achieving professional recognition and licensure where barriers once stood. 🖤

Feeling disconnected from your body doesn’t always come with obvious stress or pain. Sometimes it shows up quietly - a sense that you’re moving through your days on autopilot, handling responsibilities and staying productive, but not feeling fully present or grounded in yourself. 🫩

This experience often develops over time, especially during long seasons of responsibility, pressure, or emotional demand. When the nervous system stays focused on managing what’s in front of you, it can remain in a protective state - prioritizing function and efficiency over sensation and awareness.

Swipe through to see how chiropractic care can help you feel reconnected naturally! ✨

As we continue honoring Black History Month, we're spotlighting the Black chiropractors whose careers shaped patient care, but also broke barriers and expanded representation within the profession. 🖤

Dr. Samantha P. Adams was a trailblazing chiropractor and community leader whose career marked several important "firsts" in chiropractic history. In 1947, at just 21 years old, she became the first African American woman chiropractor licensed by the Ohio State Medical Board, at a time when few women, let alone women of color, held such credentials.

Dr. Adams opened her practice in 1950 in her hometown of Toledo, Ohio, where she served her community for over three decades, and for many of those years was the only practicing Black chiropractic physician in Toledo. Her dedication to patient care and her community helped broaden access to chiropractic and inspired future generations of Black practitioners.

Beyond her work in chiropractic, Dr. Adams was a powerful civic leader in her community:
✨ First woman to serve as President of the Toledo branch of the NAACP (1971)
✨ First Black woman elected to the Toledo Board of Education, where she also served as President (1977)
✨First Black woman elected in Lucas County, Ohio
✨ Honored as a "Legend" by the African American Legacy Project and awarded a Glass Key to the City of Toledo in recognition to her lifetime of service.

Dr. Samantha P. Adams' legacy reminds us that Black chiropractors have not only practiced health care...they've also led in community advocacy, education, and civic progress.

As we continue honoring Black History Month, we're highlighting the trailblazers who broke barriers and expanded representation within chiropractic care and education.

Louise Bousen Clague is widely regarded as the first Black female chiropractor, graduating from the National College of Chiropractic in 1926. Her achievement came at a time when both racial and gender barriers severely limited access to professional education, making her accomplishment truly groundbreaking.

Before entering chiropractic school, Dr. Clague served as a U.S. Army field nurse and physiotherapist and worked with the U.S. Public Health Service, providing hands-on care during an era when opportunities for Black women in federal service were extremely limited.

She was also one of the few African Americans to graduate from multiple prestigious chiropractic institutions, including Lincoln, National, and Palmer Chiropractic Colleges...a rare and remarkable achievement that reflected her dedication to education and clinical excellence.

Dr. Clague's legacy stands as a powerful reminder that Black women have been shaping chiropractic history through service, resilience, and leadership since the profession's earliest days. 🖤

Coming Back to Yourself After Burnout 🤍

Burnout doesn’t always announce itself loudly. Sometimes it shows up as feeling flat, disconnected, or constantly tired - even when life looks “manageable” on paper.

Burnout is often less about doing too much and more about being in a state of output for too long without enough recovery built in. When the nervous system stays in that mode, it prioritizes getting through the day over restoring what’s been depleted.

Recovery doesn’t happen all at once. It happens in layers - as the body relearns how to downshift, receive, and repair.
Here are a few ways to support that process:

🌤️ Reduce input before adding effort - Instead of pushing yourself to do more “self-care,” start by creating small pockets of quiet - fewer notifications, slower mornings, or intentional breaks from constant stimulation.
🕰️ Support your body’s basic rhythms - Regular meals, consistent sleep and wake times, and gentle movement help the nervous system feel predictable and safe enough to reset.
🧘🏻‍♀️ Choose movement that feels grounding, not demanding - Walking, stretching, or slow strength work can help reconnect you to your body without asking it to perform.
⚡️ Let support be physical, not just mental - Burnout lives in the body as much as the mind. Chiropractic care helps improve communication between the brain and body, supporting the nervous system as it shifts out of survival mode and back toward regulation.

Revitalization isn’t about bouncing back to who you were before. It’s about giving your system what it needs to rebuild capacity - at a pace that actually lasts. 🤍

As we continue honoring Black History Month, we're spotlighting the leaders who didn't just practice chiropractic..but organized for representation, opportunity, and community within the profession.

Dr. Arthur A. Cole and Dr. John Usher were pioneering Black chiropractors in the early 20th century who saw the importance of professional support and unity. In an era when many mainstream chiropractic organizations either excluded Black doctors or offered limited access, Cole and Usher took bold action to help build a space for Black practitioners to connect and advance together.

In 1927, they co-founded the Interstate Chiropractic Association, the first Black chiropractic association in the United States, with the goal of encouraging chiropractors of African-American descent to "propagate the Gospel of Chiropractic" among themselves, and strengthen professional ties across state lines.

The ICA played a key role in building professional connection and empowerment at a time when racial barriers limited access to many educational and institutional opportunities...laying groundwork for future Black chiropractic organizations and leadership in the profession! 🖤
