With sadness, we mark the death of a longtime member of our Sally’s Fund family, our friend Helga Matano. Helga was a familiar face at the Susi Q and a regular attendee of Sally’s Fund’s bimonthly lunch outings. She became a close friend of our driver Julie and will be missed by a wide circle of friends.

Oringinally from Germany, Helga was a style maven and avid weekly Susi Q bingo player. She leaves us with many fond memories. Godspeed, beautiful friend.

Our "Driven to Care" event was a smashing success! More than 60 guests attended the party at the elegant home of board member Maura Short on Sept. 25.

Drivers, donors, staffers, volunteers, board members, and the three adult sons of founders Ann and Walter von Gremp enjoyed delicious food and cocktails as they gathered to support our organization. It was wonderful to reconnect at our first in-person event since 2019!

We had a wonderful time at the 4th LOVE LAGUNA BEACH community volunteer day!

Again this year, we delivered goodies and information about Sally's Fund to two of Laguna's affordable housing sites. We had help from the 8th graders of Laguna Beach Girl Scout Troop 7554 (who have been improving our community for 9 years!) and the Patience Wright Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Many thanks to the organizers and participants of LOVE LAGUNA BEACH -- a day where residents, businesses, city government, faith-based organizations, and nonprofits unite to make the city a better place through various volunteer projects around Laguna Beach.

Sally’s Fund is more than just transportation! We not only get local seniors and disabled people where they need to go five days a week within 30 miles of Laguna Beach, we also sponsor fun quarterly lunch outings and maintain a social hub for many Individuals in our town. Connection is key!

So glad we had a birthday celebration on April 9 for one of our longest-term clients, Roger Carter. He turned 90 with a festive lunch, cake, and gifts at Las Brisas. A few weeks later, dear Roger went to the hospital, where his life ended as our executive director Rachael Berger held his hand. Our staff spent many an hour talking with Roger, a most interesting man with a sharp and lively mind. He will be missed.
