On , we celebrated the extraordinary legacy of Marilyn V. Adams, whose $6 million gift to Saddleback Medical Center will transform care for our community. 💜

Her generosity supports the Marilyn V. Adams Geriatric Emergency Program and Marilyn V. Adams Comfort Care Fund, enhancing emergency services for seniors and comfort through hospice and palliative care.

We were joined by Barry Arbuckle, CEO, MemorialCare Health System, and Shela Kaneshiro, CEO, Saddleback Medical Center, as we unveiled the program, raised a toast and celebrated the power of legacy gifts to create lasting impact for patients and families.

We shared the BIG NEWS! 🎉We’re a Breakaway Fund recipient! This support from the Samueli Foundation means restorative breakrooms for our ED and ICU clinical teams at MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center, which will help us to continue to touch patient and family lives through the mission-critical work we love while honoring the way we care for our caregivers. The first-of-its-kind grantmaking initiative was expanded to $11M from its initial $5M budget because of the urgent community-based need. Thank you for investing in Orange County nonprofits! 🧡

The spirit of hope and determination was on full display at Marbella on a Mission: Raise a Racket Tennis Fundraiser for Cancer, held Oct. 10–12 at Marbella Country Club in San Juan Capistrano. Over three inspiring days, tennis players, survivors, families and supporters came together to celebrate, honor and remember those impacted by cancer while raising vital funds for local and national care. 🎾

Proceeds from the Friday night Liveball event benefited MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center, supporting programs that advance cancer care close to home. Guests enjoyed an evening filled with music, tennis, vendor pop-ups and heartfelt survivor recognition, culminating in a powerful Raise the Racket moment.

Among the inspiring voices were event founder and co-chair Amy Staley; co-chair Trisha Heppenstall; Shela Kaneshiro, CEO of Saddleback Medical Center; Christy Ward, president of Saddleback Medical Center Foundation; Ruby Dunek, whose son was cared for at Saddleback; Dr. Gary Levine, medical director of MemorialCare Breast Centers; Foundation board member Sarah Nederlander; and breast cancer survivor Susan Smoler.

Together, the community raised more than $71,000 to support local cancer care programs at Saddleback Medical Center. We are deeply grateful to our lead sponsors and partners Farmers & Merchants Bank, Farmers and Merchants Trust Company, David and Lisa Dow and the Staley family for making this event possible.

On Sept. 11, MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center Foundation hosted Shaping the Future of Health: A Conversation with Our Physicians and CEO at the Inn at the Mission in San Juan Capistrano.

Guests enjoyed an inspiring evening with new CEO Shela Kaneshiro, RN, along with physicians:
• Daniel Su, MD — Cancer research and innovation
• Gary Levine, MD, and Cathy Han, MD — Women’s health through all stages of life
• Leonid Groysman, MD, and Alvin Chan, MD — Brain health and neurosurgery
• Timothy Lee, MD — Minimally invasive cardiac surgery

This high-energy event showcased Saddleback’s growing role as a destination for specialty care in south Orange County and the vital impact of philanthropy in advancing health care close to home.

Our incredible staff not only provide outstanding care but also support our nonprofit hospital through personal giving. To honor them, we shared a free Buffalo Wild Wings lunch and treated our night shift to a "Thanks a Latte" cart.

United by a shared purpose, MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center Foundation and Orange Coast Medical Foundation gathered at the Moulton Museum to reflect, reconnect and shape the future of philanthropy in Orange County. Through strategic goal setting, meaningful conversations and moments of fun and connection, we strengthened our vision to expand philanthropic support for the communities we serve.

We are grateful to the Moulton Museum for hosting us and helping us explore the rich history of the land surrounding Saddleback Medical Center, where our mission continues to grow as we work to improve the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities. The Moulton family has played a vital role in Orange County’s history, and we were honored to learn more about their lasting impact on the region.

Empowering our team through continued education is one of the many meaningful ways donors invest in exceptional patient care at MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center. Thanks to the generosity of our community, over $71,000 in scholarships were awarded to 19 Saddleback Medical Center employees pursuing higher education in their fields. Hosted by Saddleback Medical Center Foundation, the awards ceremony featured Elizabeth “Liz” Chassagne, BSN, RN, NE-BC, a scholarship recipient and esteemed guest speaker. Liz serves as operations manager for the Heart & Vascular Unit and is currently pursuing a graduate degree from the University of Michigan focused on leadership, analytics and innovation in health care.

The continued generosity of our donors is helping to shape the future of health care by supporting those who care for our community. We extend our warmest congratulations to this year’s scholarship recipients for this well-earned achievement. 🎓
