Commit to staying healthy during the holidays.

Enjoy your favorites without overeating. Put less on your plate and pass on that second helping. Split appetizers, entrees and desserts with others.

When you have a common cold, this typically means your nose, throat and maybe your ears are infected. More than 200 viruses can cause colds. The most common is the rhinovirus.

You probably will experience a runny nose, scratchy throat, low-grade fever, fatigue, chills, aches, sneezing and coughing. There is no cure for the common cold, but decongestants, cough drops and antihistamines can help with symptoms.

Contact your medical provider if symptoms linger beyond a few days or get worse, or if new symptoms develop.

People with allergies and asthma face unique health challenges during the winter holidays.

Whether it’s food or seasonal allergies, if you have an established pattern for allergy or asthma flare-ups at this time of year, it's recommended to use extra care during the holidays.

Be proactive to prevent any major allergic reactions and always bring along any medications you may need.

Clean hands help stop germs in their tracks! And it only takes 20 seconds to make a big difference.

Proper hand washing tips:
✅ Wash your hands often with soap and water
✅ Scrub for at least 20 seconds (sing “Happy Birthday” twice!)
✅ Use hand sanitizer when soap isn’t available

Handwashing is one of the simplest ways to prevent illness and protect those you love.

Use these best practices to stay well this holiday season!
🙌 Always wash hands before handling food or eating
🙌 Do not cough/sneeze into your hands
🙌 Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth

The number of deaths from heart disease spikes in December and January, reaching their peak on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

There are many reasons that contribute to the increase in cardiac events during the holidays:
• People put off symptoms of heart trouble during the holidays.
• The increase in holiday food and lack of exercise.
• Holidays bring more added stress than any other time during the year - and we have had a ton of added stress already!
• Lack of routine

Don’t let a preventable illness put a damper on your holidays. Take a few precautions and enjoy the season in good health.

Several respiratory illnesses are common in colder months. Each virus can be difficult to distinguish, since they share many common symptoms, but certain hallmarks can help differentiate them.

A runny nose, cough, congestion or sore throat can arise because of a virus or a common cold. But a loss of taste and smell is more commonly associated with Covid than with flu or RSV. And wheezing is often a tell-tale sign of a serious RSV infection, usually found in kids or older adults.

Remember, the only way to know for sure what virus you have is to get tested.
