Robert Benjamin Waller
4/02/1951 – 11/23/2025
Robert Benjamin Waller, lovingly known by many as Bobby, Bob, or simply “Coach,” passed away on November 23, 2025, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was born on April 2, 1951, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, to William Thomas (W.T.) Waller and Ruth Inez Gary Waller.
Bobby grew up in Yazoo City and graduated from Yazoo City High School, where he proudly played on the 1969 championship football team. His passion for education and athletics led him to Delta State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling. He later continued his education at the University of South Alabama and McNeese State University, earning an additional master’s degree in Administration and Supervision, along with +30 hours.
For more than 40 years, Bobby dedicated his life to teaching math and coaching various sports, but football was his passion. He began his career in Moss Point, Mississippi, and continued in Jennings, Louisiana; Westlake, Louisiana; and Moss Bluff, Louisiana. Over the course of his career, he also taught Driver’s Education and coached tennis, basketball, and track—specializing in javelin and shot put— during different seasons. Throughout his decades in education, he positively influenced the lives of hundreds of students, many of whom fondly remember his encouragement, steady guidance, sense of humor, and genuine care.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mila Rose Jenkins Waller; his daughter, Brandi Claire Waller Welch, and her husband, Justin; his son, Adam Blake Waller; and his cherished granddaughters, Ella Claire and Emme Grace Welch. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and W.T. Waller, and by his brothers, William Kenneth Waller and Dr. Thomas Gary Waller.
A Memorial Service honoring Bobby’s life will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Heritage Funeral Home in Moss Bluff, Louisiana. Family and friends are invited to the visitation from 4:00–6:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:00 p.m. During the Celebration of Life, there will be a dedicated remembrance time for former students, athletes, colleagues, friends, and loved ones to share stories—both humorous and heartfelt—in celebration of the impact Bobby made on so many. A burial service will be held in Yazoo City, Mississippi, at a later date.
Bobby’s legacy of kindness, service, and devotion to family, students, and athletes will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed.
