What the Coronavirus means to the diabetes population
Social Distancing- what does that really mean to me:
STAY HOME AND AWAY FROM PEOPLE.
1. Dining Out- Get Take out. When you get home take it out of the container, throw the container away and wash your hands before you eat .However try to support your local resturants
2. Social distancing is very hard but so important. This especially is true for older people being around children. Call your grandchildren if you can have facetime that is also good.Just do not visit them. Send a care package rather than a visit. However if an olderperson needs food or medication, please help them.
3. Adult children should have a back up plan for older parents- which with diabetes is 60 or above or really any age.
4.Avoid doctor visits unless you have something that needs immediate attention. Most doctors do not want you to come into the buliding. Call your doctor and see what your doctor has in mind.
5.If you have to go out wear gloves and a mask - that means everywhere. If you have to go to the grocery store, go early and avoid crowds. If you do not have a mask - make one. Google the Surgeon General and see how easy it will be to mak a mask. It does not really prevent you from getting the disease but if prevents you from touching you mouth and face. 6. If you have a friend over- only have one and limit the time you spend with them.
7. If you have been outside keep your shoes at the door and do not wear them in the house.
8. WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN WITH SOAP AND WATER.One way to know how long to wash them is say the Lord's Prayer while you are washing your hands and that should be long enough.
9. This is Holy Week but that does ot mean you have to go to church. There are so many churches in our community that are having services over the internet. Lake City Presbyterian is having a conference call where you will hear the servce but you will not be able to see it but it works from any type of phone- even a rotary phone. If you would like to get the number , please give me a call.
This is a scary time but we have to have social distance taking care of ourselves. Only God has the time limit for the virus. This is boring and even depressing for some people but remember God is in control and He wil ltake care of us if we give all of our allengence to Him
