My Dad, Tom passed away on January 15, 2026. He live 91 mostly wonderful years. He was a very supportive father and looking back even a more caring grandfather. My Dad was never affluent but he was rich. Rich with his faith and rich with a wonderful example to my siblings and I. I remember going to work with my dad as a kid. He was a printer and set type for the Minneapolis Star and Tribune. He walked my brother Tim and I around every each of the plant. My Dad knew everyone by name, from Jim Klobuchar to the janitor sweeping the lunchroom, and they all knew my Dad by name. That is the kind of person he was. Growing up, my Dad would never miss a single hockey, baseball or football game we played. You could always look up in the stands and he was there. My Dad was a very good bowler. He bowled in 2 of the premier leagues in St. Paul most of his life. I loved to watch him bowl at the Stahl House on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Dad was the quiet yet funny German, that had to counter balance my Mom's volatile Polish character. He was slow to anger and we always deserved what ever we got. Dad was so, so proud of all his kids, grand and great-grand kids. He was always there to help. He was a professional napper as life moved on. I inherited that gene. He accepted God's plan for him at the end and never complained. I will miss you Dad.
