Tip of the Week: Half-Kneeling Hip Flexor & Groin Stretch 🔥

Strong, efficient skating starts with mobile hips especially with the low skating stance hockey demands. If your hip flexors or adductors are tight, you’ll feel it in your stride: shorter pushes, less power, slower recovery, and a higher risk of groin pulls or hip impingement.

This simple mobility drill keeps your hips balanced and ready for the demands of the game.

Why it matters:
• Improves stride length and power
• Enhances hip rotation for cleaner edge work
• Reduces stiffness from skating and off-ice training
• Lowers risk of groin strains and hip irritation
• Helps players recover faster between shifts

How to do it:
Start in a half-kneeling position with one foot in front. Tuck your hips under, keep your chest tall, and gently rock forward until you feel a stretch in the front of your hip.

Hold briefly, rock back, and repeat.

Then move your front foot out to a 45° angle and repeat the same motion to target your groin.

Simple, effective, and one of the best ways to keep your hips healthy all season long.

Two teams. One mission: build stronger, smarter athletes.

Compete Sports Performance and are partnering to give players the ultimate advantage: strength, speed, and power built in the gym, paired with elite technical development on the field.

This collab shows exactly how performance training at Compete directly supports the movement patterns, footwork, and skills coached at IKON. When athletes get both sides of the equation, they level up faster, move more efficiently, and reduce injury risk.

If you want to elevate your game, train with Compete for performance + IKON for soccer skill development.

More detail here 👇🏻

Lace bite is one of the most common (and most annoying) issues hockey players face, but it doesn’t have to slow you down.

Whether it’s pressure from your skate tongue, tight lacing, or a worn-out fit, what feels like a “small irritation” can lead to tendon inflammation, stiffness, and pain every time you skate.

In our latest article, we break down:
🏒 What lace bite really is
🎯 The most common causes
🧊 How to treat it quickly
🛡️ Simple habits that prevent it from coming back

If you’ve dealt with ankle or foot pain in your skates or want to avoid it altogether—this one’s worth the read.

If you skate, your adductors (inner thigh muscles) are doing WAY more work than you think. They stabilize the hips, control your stride mechanics, power your crossovers, and protect you from one of the most common hockey injuries… groin strains.

Today’s drill: Ball Squeezes

A simple, effective way to build hip strength, improve pelvic stability, and keep you stronger and more efficient on the ice.

How to do it:
1️⃣ Lay on your back with a ball (or towel/gloves) between your knees.
2️⃣ Keep your lower back flat on the floor.
3️⃣ Squeeze → hold 3 seconds → relax x10
4️⃣ Lift legs to 90° (shins parallel to the floor) and repeat x10.

Stronger adductors =
🏒 More powerful crossovers
🦵 Better lateral pushes
🛡️ Fewer groin injuries
⚡ More stability through turns + battles

Save this drill for warm-ups or recovery days — your hips will thank you.
