✨ I see a whole new world in her hands.✨

In the quiet after the storm of birth,
a mother holds her baby beneath the surface of still water, not rushing, not pulling, not separating.
Just being.

This is what it looks like when birth remembers itself.
No bright lights.
No cold hands.
No sudden noise or strangers’ commands.
Only warmth, heartbeat, and the gentle knowing of reunion.

This kind of entrance should be the default, not the exception.
Imagine if most of us were received like this, without violence, without interruption,
bathed in silence, in safety, in love.

How different would our world be
if peace was our very first language?
If our first breath was an invitation,
not a demand.

I see a whole new world in her hands and it’s one we could build, if only we remembered how to begin.

I am looking for the good in all things. Yesterday was rough. When I got a text that my clients water broke two weeks early I wanted to cry because I hadn’t slept the night before. I jumped in bed and forced a nap... a couple hours in my phone had a FaceTime call come through. I could hear a baby crying in the background and jumped out of bed thinking the baby had come, but alas it was their toddler. But things were moving quick and I didn’t think I would make it. I raced up the completely empty freeway as I entered into the first birth that I would witness since the world turned upside down. In the back I could hear her pushing... her husband picked her up and put her in the birth pool. There was panic and a level of fear which I recognized isn’t one that frequents this space often. I wore a mask which I have never done, I could feel the moisture of my breath against my face. I immediately reminded my client that she was safe and a stillness filled the air. A few more pushes and she slowly brought her baby into the world. As I helped unwind her from her umbilical cord around her neck she got placed on her mommy’s chest. They looked and saw she was a girl and announced her name which had been picked out months before... FAITH! Yes... FAITH.. a word that we can all use in this time. Thank you baby Faith for teaching me what is most important right now.

No matter how you feed your babies when you hold them, skin to skin, and they gaze into your eyes...the bond goes beyond love. It’s soul deep connection. It’s unconditional. As says, ‘it’s a biological imperative’. Love, Mama J

Let’s talk placentas and optimal cord closure! In my practice the average cord pulsates for over 10 minutes. The longest I’ve ever seen a cord pulsate was 75 minutes. Most placentas usually come within the hour, and the rare ones sometimes within two hours. I RARELY EVER perform fundal massage (really!!!) and if I do it’s because the mom has a trickle bleed and is throwing clots. My most trusted allies for PP hemorrhage is Cypress Essential Oil with some olive oil for a leg massage. Many women report that this was one of their favorite memories of birth. Laying on the couch mesmerized by their new baby while receiving a relaxing massage. For close to the last 3 years of using this method.... I’ve had to use anti-hemorrhagic only a handful of times. In the past... my training always taught me a very active management of the 3rd stage but it was always so counter intuitive. I kept asking myself.... if a women were alone.... would she be compliant with these recommendations? The answer is hell no! I can’t tell you how many birth workers have messaged me that they too have changed their protocols and seen hemorrhage rates DRAMATICALLY fall! I would love to compile a study! I am always amazed by how the innate knowledge that we posses. I think our bodies know how to birth our babies...it's often our minds that do not.

There is something so powerful about watching two parents instinctively and easily catch/deliver their own baby.

Childbirth has a ripple effect on those who experience it and those who witness it.
For a woman (and often her partner) the process of preparing for birth, learning about their options, informing themselves to make decisions for their unique circumstances will have a ripple effect and flow on into the way they choose to parent.
The birth experience itself has a ripple effect on a woman’s postnatal mental health. How she felt, how she was treated, how the birth played out - it all has the potential to affect her emotionally, physically and mentally. This also goes for her partner and birth team.
Can you imagine the ripple effect that happens when children witness birth? When they get to see how normal and natural birth can be when a woman is informed and supported to birth on her own terms? The future generation being involved and witnessing with their own eyes how beautiful birth is... ... is there any greater life experience?! What a gift.
Birth matters.
