💛 Real-Life Tip for Helping Someone with Dementia:
Enter their reality instead of correcting it.
If they say something that isn’t accurate—like asking for a parent who passed away years ago or insisting they need to “go home”—it usually comes from emotion, not facts. Correcting them can create fear, confusion, or agitation.
Instead, respond to the feeling behind it.
Example:
If they say, “I need to go home.”
Try saying:
“You’re wanting to feel safe and comfortable. Tell me about home.”
