Dr. Vega’s journey is a powerful testament to resilience, service, and visionary leadership. From serving in the U.S. Army Reserves at 18, to supporting recovery efforts at Ground Zero, to building a distinguished nursing and psychiatric career — her experiences shaped the foundation of what PHA is today.

Her passion for closing gaps in behavioral health led her to launch Psych Health Associates in 2019, later joining forces with Spectrum Medical Partners to expand access to high-quality psychiatric and psychological care across Florida.

Today, PHA proudly serves 180+ post-acute facilities across 36 counties, as well as community patients through telepsychiatry — all driven by Dr. Vega’s unwavering commitment to compassion, clinical excellence, and resident well-being.

Healing Beyond the Physical – A Patient’s Story of Hope and Recovery

After surviving two near-death accidents, one of our patients shared his incredible journey of healing and resilience while receiving care at our skilled nursing facility.

When our psychiatric provider took time to check in, asking about his PTSD, trauma, and overall well-being, it sparked something in him. That compassionate conversation helped him realize that true recovery means healing both the mind and body.

“I feel like a helpless child learning to walk again,” he shared. “Getting my head right is just as important as healing my body. Physical recovery is half the battle—but the mind is the other half.”

With the encouragement of our dedicated nurses and behavioral health team, he continues to make strides forward every day. He says he feels blessed, supported, and focused on staying positive as he rebuilds his strength and confidence.

Welcome to the Team, Dr. Luna!

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Maykel Luna-Concepcion, MD, MPH, to the Psych Health Associates (PHA) family as one of our Regional and Protocol Psychiatrists.

Dr. Luna brings extensive experience in psychiatry, addiction medicine, and internal medicine, with a strong background in value-based care, multidisciplinary team leadership, and protocol development. He has served in roles ranging from staff psychiatrist and telepsychiatrist to medical director and vice chair of psychiatry, and he is board-certified in Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, and Addiction Medicine.

At PHA, Dr. Luna will help ensure our residents receive compassionate, evidence-based, and coordinated care, supporting our commitment to excellence in behavioral healthcare for Florida’s long-term care community.
