Hormonal change can play a role in Lipedema symptoms first appearing. According ot this First Look report, 58% of participants stated symptoms began in adolescence.

At what stage in your life did you first notice symptoms?

Lipedema typically occurs during puberty and other periods of hormonal change, and the findings of the LF Registry First Look Report bear this out. Almost 58% of the participants reported noticing Lipedema symptoms during adolescence. The peak age of onset was between the ages of 12-14, as noted by 49% of the participants. Did you know that can affect more than the arms and legs?

Contrary to most reports, Lipedema affects more than arms and legs. Lipedema-like texture can be found throughout the body, with varying frequency, according to findings in the LF Registry First Look Report. Although affected to lesser degrees, participants reported other symptoms, such as pain, swelling, and a sensation of heaviness throughout the body.
