Axial traction is a long lever adjustment that is performed using a rapid traction pull in a linear line to mobilize the spine.

Commonly known as a Y-strap adjustment, this technique can be performed using towels, bands, harness, or the practitioner’s hands.

The aim of axial traction is to increase the space between vertebrae, decreasing pressure on nerves and discs and reducing pain.

How it works

•    Decompression: The primary goal is to mobilize and decompress the spine along its natural axis.

•    Nutrient flow: By creating a vacuum within the vertebral discs, it allows for fresh nutrients to flow in.

•    No torsion: Unlike some other manipulations, this method is performed without rotation or torque, which can reduce the risk of injury to ligaments and discs.

Benefits

•    Pain management for neck and back issues

•    Improved posture

•    Relief from radiating pain in the neck, shoulder, or arm

•    Non-surgical pain relief for spinal conditions

Considerations

•    Not for everyone: It is not a one-size-fits-all solution.

•    Contraindications: A proper screening is essential to check for conditions like recent fractures, severe osteoporosis, or certain neurological conditions that may make this adjustment unsafe.

•    Qualified provider: It should be performed by a qualified chiropractor who can determine if it is right for your specific condition.

Goodbyes are always better with one final adjustment.

It’s always sad when you have friends and family relocate in life. But with that comes excitement for the amazing adventure ahead. Godspeed Robinson!
