It’s time to honor our ancestors
Pitru Paksha is a 16-day Hindu observance dedicated to honoring and performing rites for one’s ancestors.
Significance and Beliefs
Ancestral Visit – It is believed that during Pitru Paksha, the souls of ancestors descend from their heavenly abodes to visit their descendants on Earth.
Aiding Liberation – The rituals performed during this time are said to help departed souls attain moksha (liberation from the cycle of rebirth) and progress to a higher realm.
Receiving Blessings – In return for offerings, ancestors bestow blessings of peace, prosperity, and happiness upon the living family members.
Clearing Karmic Debt – Performing these rites expresses gratitude toward one’s lineage and is believed to repay Pitru Rin (ancestral debt), helping clear unresolved ancestral karma.
Respecting Lineage – The observance emphasizes the sacred bond between generations, reminding us of our roots and the continuity of family traditions.
