🎃 Fall Fun for Kids with Autism 🍂 Swipe ➡️ to discover ideas you can try at home

This season is full of excitement, colors, and creativity! Here are some fun, sensory-friendly Fall and Halloween activities inspired by ABA Therapy to help your child learn, grow, and have fun! 💙

🍁 1. Pumpkin Decorating Without the Mess
Skip carving and decorate with stickers, markers, or paint! It’s less stressful and still lets your child show creativity while working on fine motor skills.

👻 2. Practice Trick-or-Treating
Rehearse at home before Halloween night. Take turns being the “house” and help your child get comfortable with knocking, saying “trick or treat,” and thanking others!

🍂 3. Fall Nature Scavenger Hunt
Go for a walk and collect leaves or pinecones. Sort them by color or size to build attention, observation, and sorting skills — all key ABA targets!

📚 4. Storytime with a Seasonal Twist
Read Fall or Halloween-themed books to help your child understand emotions, characters, and routines. Great for language development and imagination!

🎨 5. Sensory-Friendly Crafts
Make paper pumpkins, leaf rubbings, or felt ghosts. Encourage creativity, hand-eye coordination, and positive reinforcement for effort.

🏡 6. Indoor Fall Festival
Create a calm “mini fair” at home! Play games, make popcorn, and enjoy a sensory-safe experience away from crowds or loud noises.

🧸 7. Costume Dress-Up Practice
Try on costumes early in short sessions to reduce sensory discomfort. Pair with fun rewards for a positive experience!

💙 At ABLE, we use ABA therapy to help kids with autism learn, grow, and shine — at home, school, and in the community. We have openings in Tampa, Brandon, and Clearwater with no waitlist and a Spanish-speaking team ready to support your family.

Halloween night is exciting, but for kids with autism, sensory overload, unexpected sights, and changes in routine can be overwhelming, but our BCBAs crafted these tips to help your kid have fun this Halloween:

🎃 Trick-or-Treating Success: 5 ABA Tips for a Positive Experience! 🍬

1. Visual Schedule: Use pictures or text to show the full sequence: costume, knock, say "trick-or-treat," repeat, go home. Predictability reduces anxiety!

2. Practice in Advance: Have your child wear the costume and practice the "knock-and-talk" routine days before the event to reduce novelty/fear.

3. Powerful Reinforcement: Immediately praise and reward target behaviors (like saying "thank you" or walking nicely) right after they occur at each house.

4. Clear Ending Boundary: Use the "First/Then" rule to signal when the fun is over (e.g., "First 10 houses, then we go home").

5. Sensory Survival Kit: Pack noise-canceling headphones, a favorite fidget, and a comfort item to help your child self-regulate throughout the evening.

We are dedicated to helping every child thrive in all environments!
