40 Years - 40 Stories | Story #11: UthMpact Rocks! 🎸✨

UthMpact is our youth coalition comprised of 40 outstanding student leaders, all working together to create a more positive teen culture in Polk County. One powerful way they accomplish this? Social norming campaigns in schools!

How It Works:
Students are asked what percentage of teens in Polk County use alcohol, to***co, or other drugs. At first, students may guess incorrectly that it's a higher percentage; however, by the end of the campaign, they answer correctly—learning most teens do NOT use drugs.

When students know the FACTS, they feel empowered to make healthy choices, stay away from alcohol, to***co, ma*****na, & other drugs, and support each other to stay drug-free.

These peer-to-peer campaigns are changing perceptions and saving lives!

Support Pro-Active Messaging from Our UthMpact Teen Leaders:
$40 = sponsors a UthMpact student's personality test
$40/month = covers meals for UthMpact Class
$400/month = bus transportation for Leadership Days
$4,000 = brings in a National Motivational Speaker
$40,000/year = provides much-needed staff support for UthMpact Leadership program

As students across Polk, Hardee, and Highlands Counties head back to school, they're walking into classrooms where InnerAct Alliance has been building prevention foundations for nearly four decades. 🎒

This school year, our prevention specialists will reach over 70 classrooms with science-based education that works. The proof? 83% choose alcohol-free lives, 88% reject va**ng, and 87% say no to ma*****na. These aren't just statistics—they're our neighbors' kids making choices that will shape Central Florida's future.

When we started in 1985, we served just a handful of classrooms. Today, thousands of students benefit from peer-to-peer prevention through our UthMpact youth leaders, interactive Red Ribbon challenges, and positive messaging that celebrates what's working in our communities.
Because most kids ARE making good choices. And that's worth celebrating.

Tomorrow is our last shopping day of the prom season. If you’re still in need of prom attire, come visit the UthMpact students at Project Prom, located in Lakeland Square Mall, from 11-4. All you need is to sign a pledge stating that you will be drug and alcohol free the night of prom and that you will encourage your friends to do the same.
