Liver cancer may not be one of the most common cancers, but it’s one of the most serious — with over 42,000 new cases and nearly 31,000 deaths expected in the U.S. this year alone. Early detection can make a life-saving difference, yet many cases are found late when treatment options are limited.

👉 Know your risks, talk to your doctor about screening if you're at increased risk, and take steps toward prevention. Early action matters.

Cryoablation is a minimally invasive treatment for liver tumors that uses extreme cold to destroy cancerous tissue. Guided by imaging, a thin probe is inserted directly into the tumor, where liquid nitrogen or argon gas freezes the cancer cells, effectively destroying them while preserving healthy liver tissue.

Benefits of cryoablation:
- Targets small or hard-to-reach liver tumors
- Minimally invasive, often performed as an outpatient procedure
- Can be repeated if new tumors appear
- Shorter recovery time compared to surgery
- Preserves liver function

Cryoablation can be an effective option for patients who aren’t candidates for surgery or want a more targeted approach. Give us a call to learn more: 863-577-0296

Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to open narrowed or blocked blood vessels and improve circulation. Using imaging guidance, a small balloon is inserted into the affected artery and gently inflated to widen the vessel and restore blood flow. In some cases, a stent may be placed to help keep the artery open.

What angioplasty can treat:
- Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) causing leg pain or cramping
- Blocked arteries in the legs, arms, kidneys, or pelvis
- Reduced blood flow that leads to non-healing wounds
- Vascular narrowing related to diabetes or atherosclerosis
- Narrowed and clogged fistulas and grafts.

Angioplasty is often performed as an outpatient procedure and can relieve symptoms, improve mobility, and reduce the risk of serious complications. Give us a call to learn more: 863-577-0296

Vascular disease affects blood vessels and can limit blood flow throughout the body. Symptoms often develop gradually and may be easy to overlook.

Common signs include leg pain or cramping when walking, numbness or weakness, cold or discolored extremities, non-healing wounds, swelling, and visible vein changes. Some people may also experience fatigue, skin changes, or pain at rest in more advanced cases.

Recognizing symptoms early is key. Timely evaluation and treatment can help prevent complications and protect long-term vascular health.

A ureteral stent is a small, flexible tube placed between the kidney and bladder to restore urine flow when the ureter is blocked by stones, tumors, swelling, or scar tissue. Using image guidance, the procedure is minimally invasive and can quickly relieve pain while protecting kidney function.

Ureteral stents are often temporary and may be used to prevent complications or support healing. If you think a ureteral stent could be right for you, give us a call at 863-577-0296 to learn more.

Struggling with high blood pressure that doesn't improve, even with medication? There’s a new option to consider: Renal Denervation.

This minimally invasive procedure targets the nerves around the kidneys that play a role in controlling blood pressure. By calming these overactive signals, renal denervation can help lower blood pressure in patients with resistant hypertension.

- Catheter-based, minimally invasive
- Outpatient procedure
- Designed for patients whose blood pressure remains high despite medication

For those struggling to manage hypertension with medication, it may offer another path toward better blood pressure control and heart health. Learn more at https://www.lakelandvascular.com/services/high-blood-pressure-hypertension/

Carotid Artery Disease occurs when plaque builds up in the carotid arteries, major blood vessels in the neck that supply blood to the brain. This buildup can reduce blood flow or cause clots, increasing the risk of stroke. Warning signs may include weakness, vision changes, or trouble speaking, though many people have no symptoms at all.

One treatment option is angioplasty, a minimally invasive procedure where a small balloon is used to open the narrowed artery, followed by placement of a stent to keep it open. Angioplasty can restore blood flow and help lower the risk of stroke without the need for open surgery.

Early detection and treatment can be life-saving. Learn more at https://www.lvioutpatientcenter.com/services/vascular-disease/

Uterine fibroid embolization is a minimally invasive procedure that treats fibroids by cutting off their blood supply, causing them to shrink and symptoms to improve.

Success rates are impressive:
- About 90% of patients experience significant relief from heavy bleeding and pelvic pain.
- Many see fibroid size reduced by 50% or more within a few months.
- Most patients can return to normal activities within a week.

UFE is a safe, effective alternative to surgery for women looking to manage fibroids without a hysterectomy. Visit our website to learn more: https://www.lakelandvascular.com/services/uterine-fibroids-pelvic-congestion/

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) affects millions, and many don't even know they have it.

PAD happens when narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the limbs, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke. Know the signs: leg pain while walking, numbness, or slow-healing wounds. Early detection saves lives.

This American Heart Month, take a step for your heart. Get checked, stay active, and talk to your doctor. 💪🫀

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) affects millions of men as they age, causing urinary symptoms like frequent trips to the bathroom, weak stream, or difficulty emptying the bladder. It’s a normal part of aging.

Prostatic Artery Embolization (PAE) is a minimally invasive treatment that targets the enlarged prostate to relieve symptoms without surgery.
- Minimally invasive
- Outpatient procedure
- Quick recovery, long-lasting relief

If BPH is affecting your quality of life, PAE may be a safe, effective option. Visit our website to learn more https://www.lakelandvascular.com/prostate-artery-embolization/

Thyroid nodules are common, and when they cause pressure, swallowing issues, or cosmetic concerns, treatment may help.

Thyroid Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive option that shrinks benign nodules without surgery, incisions, or general anesthesia. Most people return to normal activity quickly and maintain normal thyroid function.

For patients with kidney failure who need dialysis, dialysis access is a lifeline. It’s the way your blood travels to and from the dialysis machine so it can be filtered and cleaned.

There are a few main types of access:
🩸 Fistula – Created by connecting an artery and vein, this is the gold standard for long-term dialysis.
🩸 Graft – A soft tube that connects an artery and a vein when veins aren't suitable for a fistula.
🩸 Renal catheter – A narrow tube placed in a large vein in the neck.

Maintaining healthy dialysis access is crucial. It ensures your treatments are safe and effective. Interventional radiologists play a key role in creating, maintaining, and restoring access when problems arise. Learn more at https://www.lakelandvascular.com/services/dialysis-access-maintenance/

About LVI

The Lakeland Vascular Institute (LVI) was founded nearly a decade ago to meet the growing needs of patients and their doctors in our community. Our facilities utilize the latest technology to diagnose and treat disease, chronic pain and other conditions with greater accuracy, less invasively and—in many cases—less expensively than available before.

LVI is a subsidiary of Radiology and Imaging Specialists, a local community-based radiology group in Lakeland. By working together, we provide a multi-disciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of our patients. From peripheral vascular disease, cancer, and patients on dialysis, to the treatment of compression fractures and uterine fibroids, the Institute is designed to make the process of diagnosis and treatment an easier process for our patients to receive the medical attention they need.

Our accredited facilities are staffed with experienced and dedicated radiologists. These doctors are available 24-hours a day to provide interventional radiology services, give quick and precise film interpretations and also to answer any questions from our patients or referring physicians.
