Recently a colleague pointed out to me that one of our strengths as an was our communication, which has made me more aware of it the last couple weeks. I list "Communication Hub" in descriptions of our services, but I don't think it gets the recognition it deserves. So let's walk through an example of the communication I navigated this week for one client:
🧑🧒🧒Family - Updated children, step-children, and siblings, some of which have legal authority and decision-making obligations as DPOA/HCS, others who just need high level updates.
👯♀️Friends - Updated and coordinated logistics with supportive neighbors.
🤝Colleagues - Provided client history and preferences to expedite onboarding other providers.
👩⚕️Medical Professionals - Provided medical history to providers (rehab, physicians, home health). I was able to give the home health wound care nurse notes from the surgery itself within the hospital and the instructions from the follow up.
🧑💼Financial Professional/Referral Partner - Updated the referral partner on the client's status for their relationship and so they can schedule a visit for tax prep.
It requires discernment to understand the relationships, obligations, and information to be provided in updates. It takes a lot of ongoing bandwidth to ensure we're updating each party at the right times and with the right level of information. When done right, this level of communication management provides clarity, peace of mind, and makes everyone else's jobs easier. We're here to be your Goldilocks: not too much, not too little, but just right.
