Autoimmune diseases are one of the fastest-growing health challenges worldwide. Today, more than 50 million people in the United States and an estimated 300–400 million people globally live with an autoimmune condition. Strikingly, about 75–80% of those affected are women. Researchers believe this surge is linked to a complex mix of hormonal factors, environmental exposures, chronic stress, and changes in immune regulation—making autoimmune disease an increasingly important issue in women’s health.

When flare-ups hit, go gentle on your body. A relaxing lymphatic massage will relax your body, decongest your swollen areas, alleviate pain, and calm your nervous system -- all key elements to feeling better.

Many people who suffer with autoimmune disease have predictable swelling patterns that correlate with the affected organs. It's no coincidence that the lymphatic system is often blocked or sluggish near these points.

During flare-ups, it's so important to be gentle with yourself. The best way to get lymphatic fluid to flow -- and to help with inflammation -- is to go slow and be consistent. Trying an intense detox or deep massage while you're living with achy, sore, puffy tissues is probably not the best idea, at least right now. A gentle lymphatic massage (Vodder method) helps to open channels and remove blockages better than any extreme measures.

I just finished an interesting interview with Alane Pearce, a health coach and nutritionist specializing in autoimmune disease. The summit series "Living Well With Autoimmune Disease" will be available very soon, and I'm hoping it helps a lot of folks!

Dietician/health coach Alane Pearce, my colleague and friend, asked me to join her on "Living Well With Autoimmune Disease Summit"to give a point of view that incorporates lymphatic health. So here I am ordering a podcasting mic from Amazon. ("Testing, testing, oh dear I hate my voice, testing...")

This was her invitation to me:

"As a health and lifestyle coach specializing in autoimmune and metabolic health, I also live with Hashimoto’s. After years of navigating symptoms, conflicting advice, and burnout, I finally found a sustainable, habit-based approach to healing that helps people rebuild trust with their bodies and move forward, one small, powerful step at a time. It’s helped me heal, and has led me in my passion to help others with chronic autoimmune diseases heal as well.

So many women are living with Hashimoto’s and other autoimmune conditions, and they often feel dismissed, overwhelmed, and unsure who to trust with their health. They’re doing “all the right things,” yet still struggling with fatigue, inflammation, weight changes, hormone imbalances and a loss of confidence in their own bodies. What they want is a quick fix. But what they need, and what helps most, is education, support, and a path that honors both science and lived experience. That’s what I want to provide.

In April 2026, I’ll be hosting the Living Well with Autoimmune Disease Summit, a collaborative, education-focused event designed to support women living with autoimmune disease through practical tools, expert insight, and real hope. The Summit will bring together trusted professionals and voices who understand health from different perspectives, all united by the goal of helping people live well, instead of just “managing symptoms.”

Anyway, can't wait! I'll keep you posted.

Time for some new sheets for my massage table... For as much laundry as I do, you'd think I'd be replacing these all the time. And it's true, when the elastic in the fitted sheet starts going, I order new. However, the fact is -- and the reason I never send out my laundry -- I'm an excellent laundress. IMO. I have a protocol that leaves no scents, nor stains, and everything always feels fresh and clean. I also do laundry Every. Single. Day. So nothing ever sits for long.

However, the old, high-thread-count pillowcases are still my favorites. So much so that if they start to wear thin, I simply embroider the edges and holes. and the cotton gets ever softer. Persnickety about my linens, yes! OK with old things, yes, yes!

It's Lymphedema Awareness Month, which is a very good thing, because people often see lymphedema and don't even know what it is. Some people think it's merely a "fat" leg or arm, but no, it's a complicated condition that effects one of the most delicate systems in the body. A simple way to picture lymphedema:
Imagine a sponge that keeps soaking up water but can’t squeeze it out. Over time, it gets heavy and dense. That’s similar to what tissues can feel like with lymphedema.
It’s important to know:
It’s not just regular swelling.
It doesn’t usually go away on its own.
It can get worse without proper care.
The good news is that with the right support — like compression, movement, and specialized lymphatic massage — people can manage it very effectively and stay active.
