Summer camps are fine. But for a serious young athlete, a camp and a training block are not the same thing.

One fills time. The other builds strength, speed, durability, and real progress heading into the fall. Parents should be asking better questions about coaching, progression, athlete-to-coach ratio, and what happens when an athlete gets dinged up mid-summer.

If your athlete is serious about next season, stop treating every summer option like it does the same job.

Recreation camps, sport-skill camps, and true performance training are not interchangeable. The right environment should build speed, strength, durability, and confidence, not just fill time on the calendar.

Here’s the framework we’d use in Austin before enrolling a competitive athlete: https://helixsportsmed.com/summer-camps-youth-athletes-austin-2026/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=summer-camps-youth-athletes-austin-2026

A flashy summer program is easy to sell. A well-coached one is harder to find.

Before you sign your athlete up, ask 7 better questions: who is coaching, how much real attention each athlete gets, how the summer is structured, what happens if they get hurt, and how progress is actually measured. That is where the difference shows up.

If a program cannot answer those clearly, it is probably conditioning theater.

Teenage girls are still getting terrible creatine advice. Most of the fear is built on myths, not evidence.

Creatine is not a steroid. It is not a hormone. And for athletes in sports with repeated sprinting, jumping, and explosive effort, it can absolutely make sense when the product is third-party tested and the dosing is simple.

We broke down what parents actually need to know about safety, weight gain myths, dosing, and which athletes benefit most.

A sports hernia is not just a pain problem. It is a load problem.

A lot of athletes rest until the symptoms calm down, then try to sprint, cut, or rotate at full speed and flare it right back up. Real rehab has to rebuild trunk control, adductor strength, and high-speed tolerance before you call it a comeback.

Dr. Jordan Tittle breaks down what return to play should actually look like here: https://helixsportsmed.com/sports-hernia-rehab-austin/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sports-hernia-rehab-austin

Austin is full of generic physical therapy clinics that claim to specialize in sports medicine, but most fail to meet the needs of serious athletes. If your rehab feels like a cookie-cutter workout in a crowded room, you are at the wrong place.

Learn what parents and athletes should actually look for in an Austin sports medicine clinic, from one-on-one care to objective performance testing that ensures you are actually ready for game speed.

Jumper’s knee in basketball is usually not a random pain problem. It’s a load problem.

If you rest until it feels better, then jump right back into practice, lifts, and games, the pain usually comes right back. The better plan is to calm the tendon, build heavy strength, and then reload the spring so the knee can actually handle basketball again.

We broke down that full return-to-play progression here: https://helixsportsmed.com/patellar-tendonitis-basketball-players/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=patellar-tendonitis-basketball-players

If you keep getting shin splints, knee pain, or the same breakdown every training cycle, a slow-motion video of your foot is not enough. The real question is why your body keeps getting overloaded in the first place.

At Helix, running gait analysis looks at the whole athlete: training load, calf and hip capacity, cadence, trunk control, and what actually has to change to keep you running strong in Austin.
