Visual for Liver Disease Progression from Healthy to Cirrhosis.

Send to someone who needs to see this!

HEALTHY > MASLD > MASH > CIRRHOSIS
This is the life cycle of fatty liver disease.

In this visual we see a healthy lean liver with little to no fat,
Then we’re presented with a MASLD Liver / Fatty Liver with no inflammation.

The MASH livers takes its place with inflammation highlighted rising to the surface. This is where your liver starts developing scarring, and if not healed, becomes cirrhotic.

Once the liver reaches cirrhosis, the liver loses color, shrinks, develops scarring and damaged tissue.

If your doctor has mentioned a fibroscan — or you've had one and aren't sure what the result means — here's a clear explanation.

A fibroscan (transient elastography) measures liver stiffness using sound waves. It's non-invasive, painless, and takes about 10 minutes. The result reflects how much scarring (fibrosis) is likely present.

Results are expressed in kilopascals (kPa):

Under 7 kPa → Typically F0–F1 (minimal fibrosis)
7–9.5 kPa → Typically F2 (moderate fibrosis)
9.5–12.5 kPa → Typically F3 (significant fibrosis)
Above 12.5 kPa → Typically F4 / cirrhosis range

These are general guides — your doctor interprets results alongside your full clinical picture.

A liver biopsy remains the gold standard for precise staging, but fibroscan results often determine whether a biopsy is recommended.

If you've had a fibroscan showing elevated stiffness — particularly in the F3 range — it's worth exploring what options are available beyond routine monitoring.

MASH doesn't develop randomly.
It's driven by metabolic dysfunction — and certain factors significantly raise the risk.

Highest-risk groups:
→ People with obesity, especially with central (belly) fat accumulation
→ People with type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance
→ People with high triglycerides or low HDL cholesterol
→ People with high blood pressure
→ People with metabolic syndrome (a combination of the above)

The more of these factors present, the higher the likelihood of MASH
and the faster fibrosis tends to progress.

Here's what makes this important:
These are common conditions, as 10's of millions of Americans have them.
And most of those people have never had their liver formally evaluated beyond routine bloodwork.

If you have 2 or more of these risk factors and have never had a fibroscan or liver-specific workup.
It may be worth scheduling a visit with Covenant Metabolic Specialists.

Extra virgin olive oil has been studied in hundreds of clinical trials and the evidence keeps stacking up.

From heart disease and neurodegeneration to chronic inflammation and blood sugar regulation, EVOO’s polyphenols work at the cellular level in ways most “health foods” simply don’t.

But here’s the catch:
Most olive oil sold in grocery stores has been refined, heat-processed, or sitting on shelves long enough that the beneficial compounds are largely gone.

The label says “olive oil.” The biology says otherwise.

Swipe to learn what’s actually inside EVOO, what the science says it does, and how to pick one that’s actually worth it.

Liver disease is a silent progressing disease.
It takes years to go from healthy to MASH but when it does, it can look something like this.

Top: Healthy Liver (little to no fat)
Middle: MASLD (fat cells growing)
Bottom: MASH (fat + inflammation)
