This week is Robotics Week, and we wanted to share some fun facts about St. Anthony Hospital’s surgical robots.

We have an ION robot, a daVinci 5 (dV5) robot, and two daVinci XI robots. We have one colon/rectal surgeon, one general surgeon, one oncologist, two interventional pulmonary medicine surgeons, two gynecologists, two thoracic surgeons, three general urologists, and six trauma general surgeons.

All of our surgeons use the robots to perform minimally invasive surgeries. The use of surgical robot systems for minimally invasive procedures improves the patient experience, leading to faster recovery, shorter hospital stay, and better outcomes.

Kristie Pelletieri remembers feeling her brain 'switch off,' traveling to a 'comfortable and calm' golden light. What she didn't know was that her heart had stopped, not just once but twice.

After suffering a pulmonary embolism and two cardiac arrests, Kristie was brought back to life with the help of specialized teams at St. Anthony Hospital. The care team turned to ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), a form of life support that is used to treat severe heart or lung failure, which allows those organs to rest, recover, and regain strength.

Today, Kristie is at home, recovering, focusing on whole-body healing and appreciating every moment.
