Give Yourself the Gift of Senior Care

Many adults have the responsibility of caring for an aging parent or other loved one. Some seniors may need constant supervision, which can be a huge challenge for a family caregiver. With the holidays rapidly approaching, caregivers find themselves extra stressed. Between the challenge of senior care and additional holiday activities, it can seem like there's just not enough time in the day.

Caregivers benefit greatly from respite care. In-home respite care provides companion services for senior loved ones in the comfort of their own homes. Caregivers can get the break they deserve from their busy schedules, while seniors can enjoy a change of pace.

Respite Care for Senior Loved Ones

Getting respite care for a senior loved one during the holidays will give you some time to spend with family and friends, relieve some stress, and participate in some of the many holiday festivities. You'll have time to relax, forget about the daily routine, and take care of yourself. Respite care is temporary, short-term assistance for seniors. Home healthcare facilities provide services with trained professionals licensed to manage every aspect of senior care. These services are available day or overnight. Whenever caregivers need additional help, respite care is available to offer competent care for your senior loved ones. It also allows you some much needed personal time.

Benefits of Respite Care

No need to feel guilty about leaving your senior loved one because they might also need a break! Skilled aides will provide the same services that the elderly loved one depends on. The caregiver can have time to travel or spend time engaging with others while the senior's health concerns are met. The senior will have the opportunity to socialize with new people. Amongst many other benefits, having someone new to talk with every once in a while can help alleviate feelings of depression. The health care assistants come to the home, so the senior does not have to go to a facility that may seem strange to them.

Enjoy the holidays or any time of the year by taking advantage of the services provided by our home respite care from BlueDot Cares. Both you and your senior will get a well-deserved break during the holidays. We offer a flexible options for the hours you might need. We also offer Home Care Gift Certificates if you know someone who may need this option. Call us today at 440-827-6555.

Thanksgiving is a beautiful holiday. It highlights all of the things that matter the most on this planet. Togetherness is a big deal. Life can be challenging without the people we rely on. If you are fortunate enough to have the company of a hard-working and capable caregiver, now is the perfect time to express your gratitude.

Don't Immediately Go For Your Wallet

There are all sorts of things you can do that don't cost a dime. What exactly can you do? You can always start by inviting them to enjoy some holiday activities with you. This is especially true if they don't have family in the area and have no one to spend the holiday with. There are few things that people appreciate more than homemade and hearty meals. You can prove your appreciation through food that's enriching, filling, and delicious. Fill up the consummate professional in your life with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. That's what that special day of the year is for, anyway. It's a great chance to show your thankfulness for everyone in your life.

Small Gifts Are Always Appreciated

Gifts can do a lot, too. If you want your gift to be a particularly thoughtful one, you should take the D.I.Y. route. Perhaps you're a crafty and artsy person who knows how to make eye-catching wreaths. Perhaps you have crocheting talents that are quite simply out of this world. If you want to prove to someone that he or she matters a great deal to you, then you should try your hand at making a gift that's 100 percent personalized. It can be easy to shop for a premade present on the Internet or through a reputable department store. Coming up with one all by yourself, however, is a whole other ballgame. If you aren't a crafty-type, you can always look online for step-by-step tutorials. Or, try your hand at baking cookies or cupcakes!

It's Truly the Thought That Counts on Thanksgiving

It's okay if you don't have a lot of money to spare. You don't have to buy or make anything to express your sincerest feelings of gratitude. If you want to tell someone on Thanksgiving just how much you appreciate all they do for you, write them a note. A thank you card can be more meaningful to a caregiver than any material item.

Ready for a caregiver you'll be grateful for? Call the team at BlueDot Cares at 440-827-6555 without hesitation to find out more about our world-class caregiver specialties.

Seniors never have to give up on their fitness goals. They can exercise anywhere they wish. They can remain active indoors without special equipment. Seniors can make sure they're still getting the exercise they need while staying warm inside.

Seniors Can Stay Active Indoors

People find themselves spending more and more time in their homes. This is especially true with the pandemic, but this is always how it is as the winter months approach. That's because they're not able to go outside with the same freedom that they had before. This can sometimes do a number on health and well-being. That's because it's critical for people of all age groups to move their bodies regularly. Senior citizens are certainly no exception to this rule. If you want to encourage a senior citizen to stay active indoors, these options may be terrific ones. Staying healthy doesn't have to be out of reach for anyone.

Rely on the Powers of the Internet

Many widely known fitness instructors take advantage of video streaming sites such as YouTube these days. These gurus often post in-depth tutorials that go into fitness matters. If a senior wants to enjoy an energetic physical fitness class without leaving home, the internet can make that a fantastic possibility. Seniors can take exercise courses in the comforts of their own homes. All they have to do is check out YouTube or anything similar. They can learn about yoga, cardiovascular exercise, resistance training, anything they find interesting. Staying active indoors is easy for seniors, especially with classes meant for their age group.

Invest in Inexpensive Indoor Fitness Equipment

Senior citizens who want to stay active indoors can always turn to fitness equipment. It can be a smart and practical idea to invest in some simple fitness equipment. Some light weights or resistance bands can give seniors gentle exercise options. Seniors should ask doctors about suggestions for indoor workouts that are safe for their specific situations.

Recruit a Friend to Stay Active Indoors

Seniors can always recruit workout buddies who are part of their households or even invite a friend over. This can do a lot for morale purposes. It can stop seniors from giving up on accomplishing all of their fitness aims, too.

Have you been worried about your aging parent’s or grandparent’s emotional health lately? Depression can seem like an overwhelming obstacle, but there are plenty of ways to help a senior that is suffering.

Often viewed as a normal part of getting older, depression doesn’t have to be a part of your loved one’s golden years. The good news is that a small percentage of seniors seem to suffer depression – about 5 percent. Still, seeing signs of depression in your parents or grandparents can be deeply distressing. They might experience factors that trigger genetic susceptibilities to the disease, such as co-existing health challenges, loss of close friends or a spouse, increasing social isolation, cognitive impairment, or physical disability.

The biggest problem is that this issue often goes undiagnosed. When it’s left untreated, it increases the possibility of suffering a disability or death.

Managing the Condition:

Self-care is always a good place to start when experiencing symptoms of depression. Your parent or grandparent may need a boost from you to take care of themselves. Try to encourage them to spend time in nature, keep their minds busy with activities and games, or reconnect with the important people in their lives. Of course, having you participate in any activities would be a great place to start, too! Unfortunately, our aging parents or grandparents aren’t always open to suggestions of behavior changes. Depression only exasperates these feelings.

Get Professional Help:

When you find yourself unable to help, getting professional help is the best route to take. It may be a little awkward to discuss mental health services with your senior, but the results will be worth it.
Burnout as a caregiver is very common, especially when you have your own family or life to manage. Home caregivers can easily step into your role to give you reprieve. When your senior is showing signs of depression, a caregiver that is trained to deal with mental health disorders can be of immense help. They can make sure your loved one gets the help they need while keeping them safe and healthy.

Top Benefits of Professional Help:

While there are many benefits to looking for outside help, here are the top three:
Comfort - Your loved one gets to have quality care in a place that is most familiar and comfortable to them.
One-on-one attention - Your loved one also receives 100 percent attention, as they are the caregiver’s sole focus.
Peace of mind - Imagine not having to worry anymore about your parent or grandparent getting injured, being alone, or not eating right. Imagine how much you’d achieve knowing your loved one is in safe hands!

We here at BlueDot Cares can provide you with the help you need. Call us today to discuss excellent care options in Cuyahoga or Lorain County!
