What’s the difference between respite care and hospice care? Glad you asked!

Hospice Care focuses on the care, comfort, and quality of life of a person with a serious illness who is approaching the end of life. Hospice is designed for situations when it is not possible to cure an illness or a patient chooses not to undergo certain medical treatments.

Respite Care is for a situation where there are extensive care needs - children with disabilities, adults with disabilities, and older adults. It does not have to be related to end of life care. Respite is an opportunity for caregivers to TAKE A BREAK so they can come back to their caregiving responsibilities refreshed and with more energy to share with their loved one.

Through large and small group discussion, let's come together to consider what shifts we could make to our spaces, systems, services, and programs that will allow us to meet some of the needs of caregiving youth and those in their care. From simple things we could change tomorrow, to big dreams with potentially big impacts on our organizations and communities, we can share in advancing our goal to serve all young people through our public and school libraries.
