After more than 20 years of tireless service, we are honoring Jean Armour as she steps down from the DDRC Board of Directors.

Since 2002, Jean has been a champion for our community. From leading committees on Community Services and Human Rights to her vital role as Board Secretary, her thoughtful guidance and countless volunteer hours have shaped the DDRC we know today.

Jean Armour, thank you for your compassion, your leadership, and your unwavering belief in our mission. You have truly made a lasting difference for families across the community! ❤️

What do you do when a ski trip hits a literal bump in the road? If you’re part of the DDRC team, you lean into leadership and safety.

When a van headed to Copper Mountain experienced a flat tire, Jack and Jordan of our Therapeutic Recreation (TR) team didn't miss a beat. They navigated the vehicle to safety and focused entirely on the participants, ensuring they felt calm and secure throughout the delay.

While Jack and Jordan managed the scene and communicated with families, Dave from fleet services jumped into action as backup, driving up to ensure everyone made it back to the Administration Building safely.

This is what "Safety First" looks like in practice! Huge thanks to Jack, Jordan, and Dave for their professionalism under pressure and for always putting our participants first! 👏🚙

What a weekend for DDRC Basketball! 🏆🏀

The energy was electric at Gold Crown Foundation this weekend as 140 teams gathered for the Special Olympics Colorado Basketball Competition! We are thrilled to announce that DDRC Unified brought home 2nd place on Saturday, and DDRC Traditional secured 3rd place on Sunday! 🌟

Beyond the medals, we saw incredible sportsmanship and determination from all our players. A huge thank you to the coaches, volunteers, and families who cheered from the sidelines—our athletes rise when the community shows up! Congratulations to both teams on a spectacular performance!

When ANCOR CEO Barbara Merrill testified before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Health, she shared a story at the heart of our mission at DDRC. She spoke of Susan Hartley and her son, Cameron, whose lives were transformed by Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS).

After years of facing impossible financial choices to afford care, Susan finally accessed Medicaid-funded HCBS through DDRC. This support provided the stability she needed to remain in the workforce while ensuring Cameron could live a full, dignity-filled life in a loving home for 35 years.

This story highlights a critical reality: these services are both life-enhancing and fiscally responsible. Supporting an individual in their community costs a fraction of the price of state-run institutions, yet providers face decades of insufficient reimbursement rates and a growing workforce crisis.

At DDRC, we believe that healthcare affordability must recognize the crucial role of HCBS—investments that prevent the need for costlier, more intensive care. We are proud to see our work highlighted in Washington, D.C., as we continue to advocate for the sustainable funding that families like Susan and Cameron’s deserve.

Throughout last month, the DDRC team was out and about sharing how we help individuals and families live their best lives. 🌟

We were honored to participate in the City of Lakewood, Colorado Rise PossAbilities Expo, hosted by the City’s Recreation Department, and had a wonderful time serving as the featured speaker at the West Metro Chamber Women in Business meeting.

We love sharing the impact of our programs and connecting with new neighbors! If your group is hosting an upcoming resource fair or looking for a guest speaker to highlight inclusive community support, we’d love to hear from you.

True loyalty knows no bounds! 🏔️❤️

Greg’s connection to DDRC athletes began in a Jefferson County classroom over 50 years ago. After starting a local ski program for his students in the 1973, he has remained a dedicated champion for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities ever since.

This year, Greg stepped up to ensure our athletes could attend the Special Olympics Winter Games at Copper Mountain by helping to cover essential lodging costs. Along with partners like RK Mechanical and the Colorado Volunteer Team, Greg is helping to remove the financial barriers to competition, connection, and joy.

It takes a village to ensure every athlete has the chance to thrive, and we are honored to have such dedicated supporters in our corner.
