Barton County Memorial Park

Barton County Memorial Park In early 2020 work began on the Barton County Memorial Park, on the grounds of the old Barton County Memorial Hospital.

On this land we honor the 69 Barton County men that died in WWII.

All signs point to some wind tomorrow. How windy is up for debate. So in anticipation of this, we are just going to put out the battery powered candles in the southwest corner and people can put their chairs over there. I checked tonight and the sunset about 545. So that is when we will begin the ceremony.

There will be no Facebook Live this year

Pauletta will be selling calendars for $10 over in the pavilion so if you want one, come a little early.

Thank you

Several people have asked about a backup plan if it is windy or raining when we are trying to light the candles Tuesday night for the Veterans Day candle lighting. This is probably what will happen:

1. If it is too windy to light the candles we will have the ceremony in the southwest corner where the 69 are (where we have the Memorial Day and Quilts of Valor ceremonies). The candles there are battery powered so we don’t accidently burn the turf. We will still turn out the lights and I will read the veteran’s names. There will be no Facebook Live because that light is bright.

2. If it is raining we will not be able to light any candles. I will probably still read the names on Facebook Live under the Doris Little Nurses’ Pavilion, out of the elements.

We have been very lucky with the weather the past two years with the ceremonies. Forecast as of Sunday night is no rain but might be windy. So stay tuned.
