Learning your baby’s feeding cues early can make all the difference 💕
Before your little one gets upset and crying, they’re already telling you they’re ready to eat. 👶
Watch for early signs — tiny fists balled up, or their eyes moving under their eyelids while in REM sleep. Those are your baby’s way of saying “I’m getting hungry!”
Responding to those cues before they’re fully awake helps nursing go more smoothly and keeps both of you calm and connected. 🤱✨

Learning your baby’s feeding cues can make a big difference in your breastfeeding journey 🤱💫

👊 One of the earliest cues is when your baby’s hands are balled into fists — that’s a sign of stress and hunger starting to build. It’s a perfect time to offer the breast before they start crying.

😴 Another early cue? When your baby is in that light, REM stage of sleep — you’ll see fluttering eyelids, soft movements, or tiny mouth motions. That’s an ideal time to practice latching and get a calm, easy feed in before full wake-up.

Responding to early cues means fewer tears, less stress, and smoother feeds for both of you. 💕

It’s so common for new moms to worry if their baby is getting enough milk — especially in those early days. 💛

Here’s what I remind my clients to look (and listen!) for:

👂 Listen for swallows — swallowing equals milk transfer. Every soft gulp is a sign that your baby is getting what they need.

🧷 Track diapers — for the first week, you’ll want to see at least one wet and one dirty diaper for each day of life (1 day = 1 diaper, 2 days = 2 diapers, etc.).

🤱 Watch your baby’s tone — after feeding, a baby who’s had enough will usually have a relaxed body, soft tone, and open hands instead of clenched fists.

These are simple but powerful ways to reassure yourself that things are going well — no pump or scale needed. 🌼

You’ve got this, mama. Trust your baby, and trust your body. 💕

When moms ask me what pump to bring to the hospital, my answer is always the same: the Medela manual pump. 💛

Here’s why:
✨ It’s small, affordable, and easy to pack in your hospital bag.
✨ It’s perfect for relieving engorgement or collecting milk if baby isn’t latching yet.
✨ It gives you control without the stress of a big setup or cords.

You don’t need to bring a heavy pump or feel overwhelmed with gadgets in those first days. A simple manual pump is all most moms ever need in the hospital.

But here’s the thing… these “quirks” are what make me so passionate about supporting new families. After 10 years helping moms postpartum, I know that breastfeeding doesn’t have to feel like guesswork. With the right prep and support, it can feel calm, connected, and empowering.🤍 If you’re pregnant and want someone who’s just as invested in your success as you are, let’s chat.💬 Comment CALL or click the link in my bio to book a call with me.

The first 48 hours of breastfeeding are everything. ⏰

That’s when your baby is learning how to latch.
That’s when your milk supply is being established.
That’s when most new moms start panicking because…

They don’t know what’s normal,
They can’t tell if baby is feeding right,
And they assumed the hospital would help more than it does.

Here’s the truth:

🤱Breastfeeding is natural — but it’s also a learned skill.
💛 And no one is born knowing how to do it.

That’s why I created a class that combines Creating Your Birth Plan and Preparing for Breastfeeding… so you can walk into the hospital with clarity, confidence, and a plan that supports you all the way through those first days.

Your birth plan doesn’t just shape your delivery it sets the stage for breastfeeding, too.

The truth is, those first hours after birth are everything for feeding your baby.

✨ That’s when your baby learns to latch
✨ That’s when your body gets the signals to start producing milk
✨ That’s when skin-to-skin and uninterrupted bonding help establish supply and confidence

When you include breastfeeding-friendly preferences in your birth plan… like immediate skin-to-skin, delaying routine procedures until after the first feed, and keeping baby with you instead of in the nursery… you give yourself and your baby the best possible start.

That’s why I created a class that combines Creating Your Birth Plan and Preparing for Breastfeeding, so you can walk into the hospital with clarity, confidence, and a plan that supports you all the way through those first days.

Here’s what I want you to know 👇

✨ In the first days, your body is producing colostrum… tiny amounts that are exactly what your baby needs.

You won’t be filling bottles yet, and that’s normal.

✨ Your milk supply is established by frequent, effective feeding at the breast (or by hand expression if needed) not by pumping around the clock.

✨ Pumping right away when it’s not medically necessary can sometimes lead to oversupply, discomfort, or just leave you feeling chained to a pump instead of resting and bonding.

That doesn’t mean pumps aren’t helpful… they absolutely are!

But the best time to start depends on your unique situation. Sometimes that’s right away, sometimes it’s a few weeks in, and sometimes it’s only for certain circumstances like separation or medical needs.

💛 My role as an Advanced Certified Lactation Counselor is to help you understand the difference, so you feel confident, not confused, about when and how to use pumping as a tool.

🤍 If you’re pregnant and want to feel calm and prepared (without overcomplicating things), let’s talk.

So often when a mom calls me about painful feeds or a baby who just won’t stay latched, they’re expecting me to give them some complicated trick.

But do you know what the #1 adjustment I make is?

👉 Positioning.

When your shoulders and hips are stacked and your baby’s belly is lined up with yours, everything changes.

✨ Baby can relax and open wide.
✨ You can bring baby to you instead of hunching forward.
✨ The latch feels deeper, more comfortable, and more effective.

It’s such a small shift but it makes a huge difference.

Here’s what I want you to know:
💛 Breastfeeding isn’t supposed to hurt.
💛 If it does, there are always adjustments we can make.
💛 You don’t have to “just push through it.”

This is the kind of simple, hands-on support I’ve been giving moms for over 10 years as an a doula and advanced lactation counselor, and it’s the reason my clients tell me they finally feel confident feeding their baby.

This is why it’s so important to know ahead of time what is normal vs what is not…

AND have the support if roadblocks pop up.

09/03/2025

Think about it this way… your baby is born with instincts, like rooting and sucking, but they’ve never actually breastfed before. And you’ve never fed this baby before either.

So it takes practice. It takes patience. And it takes support.

That doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. It means you’re learning together. 💛

The problem is, most moms aren’t told that. They assume something’s wrong when it doesn’t feel easy right away. And that’s when panic, pain, and self-doubt set in.

✨ Here’s what I want you to know:
• Pain isn’t “just part of it” it’s a signal that something needs adjusting
• Frequent feeding is normal and doesn’t mean low supply
• Preparing before baby arrives makes the biggest difference in how confident you feel

🤍 If you’re pregnant and want to go into breastfeeding feeling ready instead of overwhelmed, let’s talk.

I made this mistake as a new mom too.

I spent sooo much time planning for the birth but not breastfeeding. If I would have been more prepared it would have been a much smoother start.
