Before church bells, there were bonfires—and a celebrant—priestess, priest, monk, or elder at the threshold. During Samhain, the old earth-keepers gathered as the year unfolded, and she led them: tending flames and drums, masking the living so the wandering dead could pass peacefully, naming the...

Occasionally, I take a Sunday morning and visit a church, temple or in this case meetinghouse to experience and commune with various faiths and spiritualities in order to deepen my service as a life-cycle celebrant in the community.
Today was a visit to the Lancaster Quakers or also known as the Religious Society of Friends or just Lancaster Friends and met some really lovely people!
They are a peace-loving, simple people that nurture the divine light of God inside of themselves and compassionately hold it for others.
Since 350 years ago, their worship has been based on a reverent sense of expectant waiting held mostly in silence.

The photo is of the entrance to their adjoining Memorial Garden. 🕊️

Even the smallest of us deserve acknowledgment of life.
This fourth baby robin did not survive. I lovingly gave the baby a sweet farewell and put back into the earth of my cottage garden. I have watched the parents build this nest on my side porch, became the human protector, and checked on it every day. 🤍 Thankfully the other three babies have recently fledged.

I also had another robin mama build a nest in my rose bush arbor. Watching the nest every day, I was invested in their survival. The same day that the hot pink roses burst into bloom, I am happy to report that the two babies successfully fledged from that nest.
