In 2022, the Ohio Department of Health released statistics on breast cancer within the state, including a county-by-county look at reported cases and mortality rates per 100,000 residents.

Since then, additional statistics have been published by the state, including their 2023 Cancer Profile that showed over 14% of new cancer diagnosis from 2016 to 2020 were breast cancer (second only to Lung and Bronchus). 2024 data showed 72% of female breast cancers were diagnosed at an early stage between 2017 and 2021, with nearly 100% of women diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer that had not spread surviving five years or more.

Early detection is critical. If you're in need of an appointment, call Fairfield Community Health Center for a women's health screening at 740-277-6043. All insurances including Medicaid and Medicare are accepted!

Did you know regular physical activity may help reduce the risk of breast cancer? πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

A 2023 study by Texas A&M University found that regular exercise can suppress signaling within breast cancer cells, reducing tumor growth.

Of course, exercise isn’t a cure-all. But staying active such as taking a daily walk around your neighborhood, hiking in the local parks, visiting the gym, and other activities can contribute towards reducing the risk of breast cancer.
