FROM ZOO AMERICA, Hershey, PA: Say hello to Opie, our ambassador opossum! Opie did not develop hip sockets as a baby and was determined to be non-releasable by a wildlife rehabilitator. Our team was thrilled to give him a wonderful home where visitors can learn about Opie's history and the importance of opossums to the ecosystem.
When he first arrived at ZooAmerica, his hip and leg muscles weren't strong enough to keep his bottom half in the correct position, causing a pelvic tilt. Due to this, he would often cross his legs under himself and trip.
With physical therapy, Opie strengthened his muscles and relearned where to position his legs to walk and stand. He also receives laser therapy to reduce inflammation. He has made great progress and turned two on July 10. We are so happy to have him as one of our ambassador species!

If you are getting surgery in July to your Spine, Shoulder, Hip or Knee please make your post op rehabilitation at Rivera Physical Therapy as soon as possible since we currently have a waiting list for new patients.
