Hear from Ada Perez, Patient Access Specialist III and Brightside Site Lead, who’s been part of Union Community Care for over three decades!
You’ve been with Union Community Care for 31 years, what has kept you here this long?
💫Seeing and being part of the hard work and sacrifices made have been instrumental for me for the betterment of our community. It is truly inspiring to be a part of something that, when I began, was beyond my imagination. Witnessing the expansion from a small, (third floor Cap building now Phoenix Academy) humble start to now reaching multiple counties is simply mind-boggling. I have always expressed the potential for growth, even when we only had one Duke St. building. Looking at where we stand now, I have genuinely lost count of our progress. I feel immense satisfaction being a part of this Union's growth and cherishing the relationships formed with everyone I have worked with and met throughout the years.
What’s one moment or experience that reminded you why this work matters?
💫One particularly meaningful experience I recall is our work during the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID team located at Water St collaborated closely, and together we all established a secure and supportive environment for both staff and patients, even amidst the fear of the unknown. From providers and CSS staff to the front office and facilities personnel, everyone operated as a unified team, ensuring each other's safety. I often reflect that there is truly no team like the COVID team.
What’s one thing you wish every patient knew about Union Community Care?
💫I wish that every patient fully understood the dedication and resilience of Union’s entire staff. We consistently strive to advocate strongly for our patients' health and socioeconomic well-being. Our commitment is to continuously meet their needs, regardless of where those needs may lie.
If you could share one message with the next generation of care team members, what would it be?
💫Be respectful of the differences. Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. Always remember that every day may not be good but there is something good in every day.
