Today, October 26th, is National Pumpkin Day. Pumpkins are often associated with the fall season and play a role in cuisine, decorations, and traditions in the United States. National Pumpkin Day celebrates the many ways pumpkins have become a part of our culture.

Every year, many Americans participate in festivals, farm visits, and activities centered around pumpkins, including making jack o'lanterns and finding other fun ways to decorate with them.

Another great thing about pumpkins is that they are very good for you! They are loaded with a multitude of nutrients, such as vitamins A, B and C, which help protect good eyesight, protect your cornea and optimize your ability to see better in low-light conditions. Pumpkin is also an excellent source of rich minerals including zinc, which helps keep your retina healthy.

Since pumpkins are so good for your health, it's great that there are so many ways you can eat them. Some popular ways to eat pumpkin include soups, pies, beverages and even eating the seeds. What's your favorite way to enjoy pumpkins?

Did you know that October is National Apple Month? Since 1973, National Apple Month has annually celebrated one of the nation's most popular fruits.

Not only are apples delicious raw or used in cooking and baking, but they are good for your health, including that of your eyes. Apples are rich in various antioxidants, such as flavonoids and polyphenols, which help protect your eyes against oxidative stress and help reduce the risk of vision loss conditions. They contain dietary fiber and are also rich in Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps our bodies in many ways, including helping to maintain healthy blood vessels, including those in your eyes.

No wonder apples deserve celebrating! It's a great month to enjoy one, with so many varieties available! What's your favorite variety?
