✨ What Is IFS and Why Do We Use It? ✨

Internal Family Systems IFS, developed by Richard C. Schwartz, is a trauma informed approach that understands we all have different parts.

There’s a part that gets anxious.
A part that overthinks.
A part that shuts down.
A part that tries to hold everything together.

These parts aren’t problems. They’re protectors.

In IFS, we don’t try to eliminate parts.
We build a relationship with them from a grounded, compassionate place inside of us, what IFS calls the Self.

🌱Healing isn’t linear🌱

At Intuitive Healing and Wellness, we often remind our clients that healing moves like a spiral.

You may revisit the same triggers, emotions, or patterns but each time, you meet them with more awareness, more regulation, and more capacity.

That’s growth.

In trauma and mood work, it can feel discouraging to think, “Why am I back here again?”
But you’re not back at the beginning. You’re revisiting from a new level of strength.

Here’s how to grow within the spiral:

🌀 Pause instead of react. Notice your body’s alarm system before it takes over.
🌀 Track patterns gently. What feels familiar? What feels different this time?
🌀 Regulate your nervous system. Breathwork, movement, EMDR, somatic work, and parts work help healing integrate.
🌀 Practice self compassion. Shame keeps us stuck. Curiosity moves us forward.
🌀 Reach for support. Healing deep trauma isn’t meant to be done alone.

At Intuitive Healing & Wellness, we specialize in working with professional helpers.

Therapists. Nurses. Teachers. First responders. Medical professionals. Social workers. Those who show up every day for others. 🤍

When you are consistently holding space for trauma, crisis, grief, and high stress environments, your nervous system absorbs that impact. Over time this can look like anxiety, irritability, emotional exhaustion, sleep disruption, compassion fatigue, or feeling disconnected from yourself.

Being the helper does not make you immune to trauma. In many cases, it increases your exposure to it.

Therapy provides a confidential space where you do not have to be the strong one. A space to process secondary trauma, chronic stress, and the pressure of being the one who has it together.

Through trauma informed care, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and body based approaches, we support professional helpers in restoring balance, resilience, and connection to themselves.

🌀Obsessive thoughts can feel loud, sticky, and exhausting.

They loop, question, and replay until anxiety starts to take over.

This isn’t weakness.
It’s your body’s alarm system staying switched on 🚨, trying to protect you by watching for danger.

When the alarm doesn’t turn off, the mind keeps scanning and the body stays tense, leading to anxiety, restlessness, and exhaustion.

A few gentle ways to help quiet the alarm 🌿:

Notice the thought without engaging it
You don’t have to solve it or push it away. Try naming it: “This is an anxious thought” and let it pass.

Bring safety into the body 🤍
Slow breathing, grounding through your feet, gentle movement, or temperature changes can help signal to your body that you’re safe.

Set boundaries with your thoughts
You can tell yourself “I don’t need to figure this out right now” and redirect your attention to something neutral or calming.

Reduce reassurance loops 🔁
Constant checking or seeking reassurance can keep the alarm ringing. Small pauses help retrain safety.

Respond with compassion, not control ✨
The goal isn’t to eliminate thoughts, but to meet them with less fear and more kindness.

Because healing lives in the body not just the mind.

At Intuitive Healing and Wellness we incorporate movement breathwork art and other expressive modalities alongside talk therapy because

✨ Trauma stress and emotions are often stored in the nervous system and not always accessible through words
✨ Movement helps release what the body has been holding onto
✨ Breathwork supports regulation grounding and safety from the inside out
✨ Art and creative expression allow feelings to surface when language falls short
✨ The body can process and integrate experiences more effectively when it feels involved and supported

Talk therapy is powerful but for many people it is only one piece of the puzzle.

Dissociation explained 🤍

Dissociation is a normal nervous system response to stress trauma or overwhelm. It is the brain’s way of protecting you when things feel like too much. You are not broken and you are not alone.

Common types
• Zoning out or daydreaming
• Depersonalization feeling disconnected from yourself
• Derealization the world feels unreal or foggy
• Emotional numbing
• Memory gaps

Gentle ways to cope
• Name it I’m dissociating and that’s okay
• Ground your senses name what you see hear and feel
• Move your body stretch walk press feet into the floor
• Slow breathing with longer exhales
• Use anchors texture scent or a calming phrase

Dissociation is not something to eliminate but something to understand and soften with support 🌱
