🛡️When Comfort Is Actually About Safety🛡️

Sometimes we don’t choose comfort because it feels good. We choose it because it once kept us safe 🤍

🩹Old wounds teach the nervous system what to expect. Even when a situation is painful, familiar patterns can register as safer than change.

💔How safety-seeking wounding shows up:

~Staying where you’re unseen because being visible once felt unsafe

~Avoiding change because uncertainty was once overwhelming

~Repeating relationship dynamics that mirror early attachment wounds

~Saying “I’m fine” while your body says otherwise

This isn’t weakness. It’s protection.

🫶How to interrupt the pattern with compassion:

~Name the pattern without judgment. “This makes sense given what I’ve been through.”

~Notice what your body is signaling. Safety lives in the nervous system 🌿

~Create small moments of safe change rather than forced leaps

~Build regulation before resolution

💕Healing doesn’t mean ripping away what once protected you.

It means teaching your system that new options can also be safe.

✨The body holds the memory.” What does that really mean?✨

As therapists, we’re often talking about implicit memory, memories stored in the body and nervous system, not as clear stories we can easily recall.

These memories can show up as:

• Anxiety with no obvious cause
• Feeling on edge or shut down
• Strong reactions to certain people or situations
• Chronic tension or fatigue

Your body learned these responses to keep you safe, even if the experience happened long ago.

🧠 Implicit memory lives in sensations, emotions, breath, and automatic responses.

That’s why talk therapy alone doesn’t always reach it.

✨ At Intuitive Healing & Wellness, we work gently with the nervous system and the body, helping clients notice sensations, build safety, and regulate before processing. When the body feels safe, it naturally begins to release what it’s been holding.

Healing isn’t about reliving the past.

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and one of the most important things we can do is understand how trafficking really happens today.

It doesn’t always start with force it often starts online. A DM. A job post. A new “friend.” A promise that sounds too good to be true.

As this graphic shows, traffickers use technology to recruit, control, and exploit people in ways that are hard to see from the outside. Awareness helps us recognize the red flags and step in sooner.

At The Lighthouse, we support survivors of trafficking and exploitation right here in Fairfield County providing safety, advocacy, and a path forward.

Thursday Reminder 🌿

Release what your body has been holding.

Try this Shaking Breathwork Practice to gently reset your nervous system:

✨ Shake + Exhale (3–5 minutes)
• Stand with feet hip-width apart
• Begin to softly shake your hands, then arms, shoulders, and legs
• Inhale through the nose
• Exhale slowly through the mouth with a sigh or gentle sound
• Let the shaking be loose and intuitive

Shaking helps discharge built-up stress and signals safety to the body.
Long exhales support the vagus nerve, inviting calm after release.

When you’re done, pause.
Place a hand on your chest or belly and notice how your body feels.

Your body knows how to heal when given permission.
