🌟 United Way of Fairfield County Facebook Takeover! 🌟

Today, we’re proud to highlight another one of our incredible partners — Center of Independence!
In this video, Executive Director Josh Stevens shares how our partnership is helping more Fairfield County residents live with dignity, confidence, and independence.
Thanks to community support, United Way of Fairfield County invested $62,455 into the Center of Independence — funding that expands their reach, strengthens advocacy, and provides life-enhancing services to individuals who benefit from greater support and empowerment.
Because of this partnership, the Center of Independence offers five essential programs that help community members stay connected, supported, and able to thrive:
🚐 Transportation Services
• 24,000 plus miles driven for Adult Day Services programs
• 11,000 plus medical trips completed
• Serving over 4,000+ unduplicated riders
• Totaling 330,000+ miles driven to help Fairfield County residents access the care and services they need

🩺 Medical Equipment Loan Program
Providing critical equipment at no cost to help individuals remain safe and independent.

🔨 Volunteer Ramp-Building Program
Community volunteers constructing temporary ramps for residents facing mobility barriers.

💛 PACE Unit
A new, inclusive space designed to welcome individuals who may not otherwise feel comfortable participating in community events — offering safety, support, and belonging.
This is what true partnership looks like.
This is community in action.
When you donate to United Way of Fairfield County, you’re not just funding programs — you’re helping neighbors live more independently, strengthening our shared community, and ensuring that life-changing services like these remain available for years to come.

✨ Together, we can build a more inclusive, accessible, and resilient Fairfield County.

We are proud to have been part of Destination Downtown Lancaster Winterfest this past weekend—and a big thank-you to United Way of Fairfield County for the shoutout!

✨ What an incredible weekend in Fairfield County! ✨

Thanks to the amazing support from the Family YMCA of Lancaster and Fairfield County (and a very special shout-out to Elf Yael!), we were thrilled to take part in this year’s Gift of Time event—where we handed out hundreds of books to the children who stopped by.

Sydney dressed up as a Jolly Old Elf and absolutely loved spreading holiday magic throughout the day. We are so grateful to the teachers who opened their classrooms for us to use—they even had fun decorations set up for the kids! (Another shout-out to our favorite Elf on the Shelf, Ace, for bringing so many smiles!)

Of course, no festive morning is complete without a stop at the Kiwanis Pancake Festival, where Sydney refueled with some delicious breakfast before helping with cleanup at the end of the event.

On her way to drop off leftover books, she spotted a familiar sight—a bright purple PACE Unit at Winterfest! She couldn’t resist stopping in to say hello to friends Nurse Sarah and Josh, who were there to help make Winterfest more inclusive by bringing the Fairfield Center for Independence PACE Van.

If you haven’t heard of it, PACE stands for Progress Towards Accessible Community Experiences. The unit provides essential, accessible features—like a ceiling hoist, changing table, climate control, privacy, and safe personal-care space—ensuring that individuals of all abilities can fully participate in community events. Seeing it in action always brings us joy, because this is what community is all about: inclusion, accessibility, and belonging.

We also want to extend a big thank-you to Destination Downtown Lancaster for handing out our remaining Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library books during Winterfest and the annual tree-lighting celebration.

It truly takes a village—and we are so thankful for every partner, volunteer, teacher, neighbor, and friend who helps make Fairfield County such a wonderful place to live, learn, and celebrate. ❤️🎄📚
