UVA and UVB rays are still active: While UVB rays (that cause sunburn) are weaker in winter, UVA rays are strong year-round and contribute to premature aging, wrinkles, and skin cancer. Snow reflects UV rays: Snow can reflect up to 80% of UV radiation, increasing your exposure, especially for activities like skiing or snowboarding. Damage is cumulative: Sun damage adds up over time, so daily protection is crucial for preventing long-term damage. Cloudy days are not safe: Up to 80% of the sun’s UV rays can pe*****te clouds, so you are still at risk even on overcast days.

Wear appropriate footwear: Choose shoes or boots with rubber or neoprene soles for better grip. You can also attach accessories like “snow grips” or “ice cleats” to the bottom of your shoes.

Adopt the right walking style: Take short, slow steps, pointing your toes out slightly and keeping your knees bent to lower your center of gravity

Keep your hands free: Keep your arms out of your pockets so they can be used for balance. Avoid carrying heavy items or bulky bags, and try to use a backpack to keep your hands free.

Pay attention: Be aware of your surroundings and look for black ice, which can be difficult to see. If possible, test dark or wet-looking spots by tapping them with your toe before you step.

Use handrails and other aids: Use handrails on stairs, and consider using a walking stick or cane with an ice tip for added stability.
