The GateHouse

The GateHouse Restoring the human spirit through recovery. This page is for alumni, family and friends of The GateHouse. The length of stay varies.

All of The Gate House programs provide the client with quality, reality-oriented professional counseling services and basic life skills training so that they may fully develop. The treatment is based on the philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, and principles of a holistic approach to recovery. Our staff and extended resources include competent and knowledgeable, certified, and degreed professionals who specialize in substance abuse, codependency, and mental health problems. The residential programs, known as The Gate House for Men and The Gate House for Women, provide structured living and on-going treatment for adult men and women recovering from chemical dependency. Many people find that after they have completed an inpatient detox or rehabilitation program, they need continued support. The Gate House programs provide a safe place for people who need a little more time in a drug-free environment away from old people, places, and temptations where they can continue to stabilize before moving forward. Both programs are Pennsylvania State licensed and are recognized by the Pennsylvania Client Placement Criteria at level 2B. The transitional housing/recovery house program provides a safe supportive living environment conducive to emotional and spiritual needs of an individual new to recovery. Outpatient treatment consists of individualized treatment planning which includes the client in deciding the course of their treatment. Outpatient services also include assessments and referrals to community-based resources, relapse prevention planning, and the practicing of recovery skills without disrupting daily routines and is offered for men and women at both our Mountville, PA and Lititz, PA location.

🎉 This year, we are proud to help celebrate 60 years of Compass Mark and honor a shared history that helped shape recovery support in Lancaster County.

In 1972, The GateHouse was formed in partnership with NCALC, now Compass Mark, after community members recognized the need for continued care and support following inpatient treatment.

What began with a peaceful home and a strong sense of purpose has grown into a continuum of services that support individuals through residential extended care, outpatient treatment, and transitional living.

We are grateful to be part of this legacy and proud to continue the work of helping people build lives rooted in recovery, connection, and hope. 🧡

“I have totally changed my perspective on my place in the world.”

Hearing perspectives like these reminds us of what is possible through recovery. These journeys are built one day at a time, and we proudly stand with those who've chosen to take responsibility, rediscover hope, and reclaim what was once lost.

Thank you to John for sharing this perspective and trusting The GateHouse to play a part in his second chance.

These stories reaffirm our commitment and highlight the community that is available to those who need it.

🏀 Bracket season can bring a lot of excitement to March. For many in recovery, though, sports betting can become a real risk to stability, accountability, and peace of mind.

What may seem casual or socially accepted can still trigger the same patterns of secrecy, loss of control, and emotional strain that recovery works to heal.

Support is critical throughout the entire journey, but especially in times of added pressure and when options for potentially high-risk behaviors become more accessible.

There can be a lot of noise and pressure around Valentine's Day, especially for those navigating early recovery.

The messages we see everywhere can make it feel like happiness has to look a certain way, but recovery isn’t about grand gestures or picture-perfect relationships.

Often, the real progress happens in the quiet moments. Found when we show up for work, stay connected with our community, and stick to routines that build long-term healing.

In our latest article, we share why focusing on grounded routines and authentic connection matters more than seasonal expectations.

🖤 Today, we also pause to recognize the lives lost to overdose and to honor the families and communities who carry that loss every day.

Observed each year on March 6, Black Balloon Day is a national day of remembrance that was created to bring awareness to the overdose crisis and to remember those whose lives were taken too soon.

Behind every statistic is a person. They are sons or daughters, a parent, a sibling, a friend, or all of the above.

At The GateHouse, we remain committed to supporting individuals and families affected by substance use disorder and to creating a community where recovery is possible.

Taking the path of recovery is not a solo journey. It includes partners, children, parents, loved ones, and friends.

That’s why The GateHouse Family Support Program exists. It was designed to provide education, guidance, and a safe space for families navigating recovery together.

Through support groups, resources, and compassionate care, we help families understand addiction, rebuild trust, and find strength in connection.

Support is accessible for both individuals in recovery and the people who love them.
