Independent Living Services (ILS) offers a wide range of in-home, non-medical personal care and living assistance services for seniors and individuals with disabilities. Independent Living Services is a nonprofit organization committed to helping people with disabilities, including veterans and the elderly, lead more independent and fulfilling lives. Pennsylvania offers many programs that provide support services and financial aid for independent living. However, sorting through all of the options and requirements can be daunting. ILS can help you locate relevant programs to ensure that you get all of the help and support you’re qualified to receive!

Yes! The Resource Center is here to answer all of your questions. If we don’t have the answer, we will research it for you.

We can connect you to a variety of resources such as in-home personal care, home medical equipment, accessible home modifications, custom wheelchair seating, and service dogs. Additionally, we can guide you through understanding the resources available within the community to support your individual needs.

We provide compassionate services that include medication reminders, meal preparation, bathing (hygiene and grooming), errands, light housekeeping, transportation and companionship. Our trustworthy caregivers provide quality services in the home and community that enhance the independence and enrich the lives of older adults and people with disabilities.

We recognize that it can be uncomfortable to invite a stranger into your home to provide personal, intimate care. That’s why all of our caregivers go through an extensive hiring and screening process.

Before they ever step foot into someone’s home, caregivers undergo a criminal background check, fraud check, child abuse check, a competency screening, reference checks, and in-home training.

We want to let Pennsylvania residents know that Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) season is now open for 2022-2023. This program helps low income families pay their heating bills in the form of a cash grant.

Winter is a difficult time of year for many reasons, especially for older adults and people with disabilities, and nobody should have to worry that they're going to be too cold. If you or someone you know will need help keeping your home warm this winter, find out more information about LIHEAP, the eligibility requirements, and how you can apply on the Pennsylvania State Services website: pa.gov/en/services/dhs/apply-for-the-low-income-home-energy-assistance-program-liheap.html
