On Feb. 3, one of our nurses, Laura Walters, donated 10 million stem cells to a patient she has never met who is fighting blood cancer. Laura was matched to the patient through DKMS, an international registry that connects stem cell donors with patients who need a transplant. Laura was told the patient's chance of finding a donor was less than 0.03%. "I realized I may be the only person in the world who could help her, so of course I agreed to do it," she said. "If the roles were reversed, I would want someone to do it for me." Thank you, Laura, for your lifesaving donation!
