DEAR LORD I COME TO YOU TONITE AS I DID 32 YEARS AGO AS MY DAD ISREAL HARTLEY DIED DECEMBER 15, 1993 AT 9:00 PM . MY DAD WAS THE VERY BEST AS MOST OF YOU KNOW. HE WAS A VERY PROUD FATHER OF MY PROFESSION.

I MISS HIM JUST LIKE ALL OF YOU FAMILIES DO AND I SYMPATHIZE WITH YOU. I THANK GOD EVERY DAY THAT I AM A FUNERAL DIRECTOR AND BLESSED BEYOND MEASURE AND MADE HIM PROUD. I THANK ALL OF YOU FOR CARING FOR MY DAD AS MUCH AS I ALWAYS WILL. HE WAS A GOOD AND GODLY BLESSED MAN AND HAD MANY FRIENDS.

ITS EARLY BUT BE THINKING OF NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS, LIKE TRY TO LIKE THE PERSON THAT YOU DONT LIKE RIGHT NOW, ME INCLUDED, BE A LITTLE KINDER, RESPECT THE ELDER, DONT GO TO CHURCH AND LIVE FOR THE LORD ONLY 2 HOURS ON SUNDAY AND THE REST OF THE TIME YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE OR LIVE FOR THE DEVIL

I DONT DRINK, SMOKE, OR DO DRUGS BUT I KNOW PEOPLE THAT CLAIM TO BE RELIGIOUS WILL GET DRUNK ON SATURDAY NIGHT AND BE STRUMING THEIR GUITAR ON SUNDAY MORNING “OH HOW I LOVE JESUS.” THATS THE REASON CHURCH ATTENDANCE IS DOWN IN MOST CASES BECAUSE PEOPLE SEE AND KNOW THAT THEY WANT NO PART OF THAT. I AM NOT A FAKE PERSON, I WORK HARD I HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY BLESSED BY OUR LORD AND THATS WHY I GIVE BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY FOR INSTANCE HOPE OF LANCASTER , THE WARD FAULKENBERRY CHRISTMAS BASKET FUND, HOSPICE, ST JUDE CHILDRENS HOSPITAL, SCHOOL FUNCTIONS, SHRINERS HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN, VETERANS FREE BREAKFAST, AND HELP PEOPLE WITH FUNERALS RATHER THAN HAVING TO CREMATE THEIR FAMILY MEMBER; ALSO GIVE $500 DISCOUNT ON FUNERALS FOR VETERANS NOT RELATED TO OUR ALREADY ECONOMY FUNERAL PACKAGE WHICH HAS ALREADY BEEN REDUCED.

I was born September 14, 1948 in Lancaster County a son of Isreal and Lois Furr Hartley, went to the old Springs Elementary School, the old junior high school where the now swimming pool is, and graduated from the old Lancaster Senior High School in 1966. I also attended University of South Carolina, and Gupton - Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta, Ga. Class of 1974. I am a licensed embalmer and Funeral Director and still do most of my work.

I also worked for one of the local funeral homes for many years with a break of 2 years to serve our great country in Vietnam as a member of the 29th Civil Affairs Company attached to the 101st Airborne Division and served as well as i could, and very lucky to be back home.

In 1980 my Wife Joanne and I were very fortunate to buy a funeral home in Calhoun Falls, S.C. a small wonderful rural town in Abbeville County. S.C. having built that location to its full potential we sold it, and it gave us an opportunity to come back home to Lancaster and build a new funeral home at 1800 Charlotte, Highway in Lancaster, having owned and operated that for 17 years and took care of hundreds of wonderful families we decided to sell and retire which is now Burgess Funeral Home.
