In the past, the only treatment for severe cases of sacroiliac joint pain involved invasive joint fusion surgery, which required the implantation of steel rods or screws to stabilize the joint.
There are now innovative new approaches to addressing sacroiliac joint dysfunction, which provide patients with a minimally invasive solution to alleviate their pain. This unique approach involves implanting a single, small bone allograft—approximately the size of an almond—into the SI joint to stabilize and fuse the dysfunctional joint.
Learn more about this procedure on our website at: https://www.precisionpaincare.org/pro_scjointfusion.html

Sitting for long periods can cause back pain due to poor posture, increased stress on the spine, and pressure on the discs in your lower back. This can lead to a number of conditions, including sciatica, herniated discs, and muscle strains.

Here are a few tips to reduce the risk or minimize further pain from sitting:

1. Take breaks: Get up and walk around every 30 minutes to prevent back pain.

2. Improve your posture: Use a lumbar pillow or rolled-up towel to support your lower back.

3. Stretch and exercise: Yoga and other exercises can help strengthen your lower back.

This President’s Day, here’s a fascinating reminder that even our first president had to battle daily pain behind the scenes.

George Washington lived with constant discomfort from his ill-fitting dentures—made from ivory and human and animal teeth (not wood). He managed the pain through frequent visits to his dentist, Dr. John Greenwood, along with regular maintenance and the use of pain relievers like laudanum. Despite the agony, Washington wore the bulky dentures to eat and speak, clenching his jaw to keep them in place and enduring facial swelling and distortion that can be seen in many of his portraits. His perseverance showed remarkable strength and determination, even in the face of daily physical suffering.

The New Year brings a fresh start for things like that exercise program you've been meaning to start or perhaps changing your diet to lose weight. Precision pain care has several great sources to help you on your path to healthier living, and trying some new things that can also help you manage your pain.

One you can try is our web page on stretching and toning exercises. These routines can strengthen the muscles that support the back and help alleviate back pain. We have a page on our web site that goes over these exercises, and we will be adding more exercises to this list as the year goes on.

Some Helpful Hints to Help Your back if You Need to Do Fall Raking

Stretch to warm up beforehand and relax your muscles afterward. Frequently switch arms while blowing leaves and raking to prevent or alleviate muscle exhaustion.

Use a rake that fits your body size. Using one that is too long or too short can alter your posture, causing muscle strain.

Maintain good form. Muscle pain and strain often result from awkward body positions. To avoid this, keep your legs slightly bent, center your weight, and reach with your arms instead of your back.

Take frequent breaks. Every 20 minutes, stand up, place your hands on your hips, and gently stretch into a back bend for a few seconds (3-5 times), especially before lifting anything. Taking your time reduces the risk of injury.

Bend with your knees. When lifting leaves, keep your back straight and bend at the knees and hips—not the back. The power for lifting should come from your legs and buttocks. Make smaller piles to reduce the weight.

Use a tarp. Leaves are lightweight and can easily be moved using a tarp. Rake the leaves onto the tarp, then pull it to your desired location. This saves your back from constant bending to pick up piles of leaves for bagging or using a wheelbarrow.

Drink plenty of water. Muscles need water to function properly. Staying hydrated helps your muscles coordinate better and support your physical activity.
