Growing up I lived near salt water and had access to an abundance of sea food. It’s what actually drew my ancestors to the queens NY area. My Scottish/English family actually came from fishing towns in the early 1800’s. My Nonnas Mother and father came to America a bit later. To many think Italians eat a lot of pasta but we didn’t.
My Poppy loved to garden and fish so we always had fresh veggies and fresh fish on hand to cook. My Pop used to buy me fresh breaded Italian clams from the local Italian place and I recently had them when I took my trip to NYC. As Italians from Naples Nonna did not do the seven fishes but for Christmas Eve we did have tons of fish. Baccala, Shrimp and those wonderful clams. You could imagine what the house smelled like! Lol it was a little bit of everything.. so when I eat these foods, it brings me all back. I recently asked a local food group here in Lancaster if they knew a place to get authentic breaded Italian clams.. I know here in Amishville!! Lol but I figured, It was worth a shot..
I get this a lot with my name Holistic Prairie Mama .. And yes technically My people didn’t come from the country. The wouldn’t have worn country clothes. They actually wore fine city attire with bustles . But the country has always resonated with me, with my soul and will always be in my heart. Maybe something I remember from a past life. It feels like home. And land sakes, If this country girl with the NY accident wants An Italian clam, well that is just perfect!!
Don’t let people define who you are. We are all Unique. And that my Prairie Peeps is an absolutely beautiful gift!! 🎄
Sending Christmas Prairie love!!❤️
