Today and tomorrow I will be gathering ingredients from my aromatic cupboard to make kits for family and friends. I will send them home with ingredients to make lip balms or body balms that they can tailor to what aroma they would like. I will post the process.

THE fresh batch of Dreamy Minty Foot Fluff is now stocked at in Lancaster. They are a perfect hostess gift or stocking stuffer. Lovely refresh for tired legs and feet. The blend is a base of shea butter, coconut oil, and jojoba with peppermint, lavender, and tea tree essential oils. A little goes a long way!

While taking stock of the butters and oils that I have ready to use, I was reminded that I have a LOT of shea butter. Shea is amazing for winter skin, but it has a very intense nutty aroma and can go grainy in a body butter blend. Here is an amazing, well researched blog post by Jade Shutes that helps navigate how to make a smooth butter without that grainy aspect. Basically, cool it quick!

So Why Does Shea go Grainy in Botanical Body Care Products? Understanding Melting Points and Fatty Acids While each plant-based butter is given a general melting point (e.g. Shea butter has a melting point of 89 to 100°F), the melting point can be a poor descriptor because butters are made up of fa...

I did it! I broke out my last jar of minty foot fluff today. I will use it slowly until a fresh batch is made. It's far too hot right now, but by mid week next week the temp will drop again. I'll be itching to delve into making body balms and butters then.

Our Story

I have been enjoying essential oils for over 20 years! I used them in my massage therapy practice and when I started working for a hospital massage therapy team I knew it was time to become a Certified Aromatherapist. I have over 400 hours of study with amazing teachers like Andrea Butje and Jades Shutes. Offering live classes for the community the last 4 years has been a blessing. Though I still teach live occasionally I now have placed my classes online so I can help more people use essential oils safely and effectively. Click on Events to see the latest offerings. Every month in 2019 I will be featuring an essential oil or carrier on my blog, which includes essential oil information, ordering, ideas, and recipes.
