Why do we use bridging exercises in pediatric OT?
Bridging is more than just a core exercise. It helps activate the pelvic floor, core muscles, and postural system while also supporting reflex integration.
When children lift their hips in a bridge position, they are working on:
✨ Core strength
✨ Pelvic floor activation
✨ Body awareness
✨ Postural stability
✨ Motor planning and coordination
These skills are essential for everyday activities like sitting posture, balance, toileting, and overall body control.
In pediatric occupational therapy, simple movements like bridging help the nervous system learn how to organize the body, regulate movement, and build a strong foundation for functional skills.
