Everyone deserves to have their healthcare wishes respected, no matter what. Thatโ€™s why Florida is considering Senate Bill 312: Patient Directed Medical Orders (PDMO) โ€“ a simple idea thatโ€™s a game-changer for people with serious illnesses.

๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ฃ๐——๐— ๐—ข?
PDMO is an official medical order (like a doctorโ€™s order) that records exactly what treatments you do or do not want if you become seriously ill, so your choices are known and honored in any emergency or care setting.

Itโ€™s created with your doctor and travels with you. No matter where you areโ€”whether in a hospital, nursing home, or at home with paramedicsโ€”providers can quickly see your wishes and follow them. This means:
โ€ข You get the care you want
โ€ข You avoid the treatments you donโ€™t want
โ€ข Your family isnโ€™t left guessing your wishes

Florida SB 312 would establish PDMO statewide, and itโ€™s up for a hearing soon.

Now is the time to speak up. Everyone โ€“ patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals โ€“ can help make this happen.

October 9th is National Ageism Awareness Day. Besides the amazing resources from the American Society on Aging (asaging.org), the National Center to Reframe Aging (reframingaging.org), and The American Geriatrics Society we also want to recognize Florida's very own Department of Elder Affairs and Florida Council on Aging, along with USF's Florida Policy Exchange Center on Aging (FPEC) located within the USF School of Aging Studies. The FGS is proud to help bring awareness and solutions to ageism in Florida through collaboration and education.
