Petition for Street Closure or Food Truck(s) Variance at 111 Coffee Street East, Lanesboro, Minnesota
To the Residents of Lanesboro:
We are asking for your support to close two street parking spots in front of 111 Coffee Street East seasonally during our tourist season, as well as for special events and holidays. The proposed hours for food truck(s) in this location are:
Fridays: 4:00 PM to midnight
Saturdays: 12:00 PM to midnight
Sundays: 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Reasoning:
Enhancing Tourism: Closing these parking spots and allowing food truck(s) to operate will encourage visitors to explore Coffee Street, increasing foot traffic and supporting all local businesses in this part of town.
Community Engagement:
This initiative will help bring more entertainment, activity, and social energy to the area—creating a vibrant hub for both residents and tourists.
Extended Dining Options: As a cannabis business, we are not permitted to provide or serve food inside or on our premises. Allowing food truck(s) on the street directly in front of our location is the most effective and compliant way to offer food options to our customers and to the community, especially during hours when most other restaurants in town are closed.
Proven Positive Experience: We have had a couple of years of experience with the town already allowing a food truck, and there have been little to no issues or disruptions. This track record shows that the addition of food truck(s) is both manageable and beneficial for the community.
Land Use Limitation: The alley behind our building is DNR land and not permissible for food service or setups. Additionally, the DNR also owns most of the green garden area on the side of the building, which further limits available space. This makes the street closure in front of our business the most viable option.
Compliance with Distance Requirements: The food truck will also comply with the 50-foot provision from any other food businesses, ensuring we meet all local ordinances and maintain good community standards.
We believe that this initiative will enhance visitor experience, support local economic activity, and contribute positively to the overall vibrancy of Lanesboro. You can find copies if you haven't signed it and are interested in signing, at the bank, Lanesboro Market, Saloon, and at our shop. We will be turning this in next month at the January City Council and Zoning meetings.
Thank you for your support and consideration.
Sincerely,
Luis Hummel
